Laboratory Supervisor

• Permanent full-time

• Remuneration: $92k-$95k

SGS is looking for an experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team in Kalgoorlie Laboratory. This role is responsible for supervision of laboratory staff, weighing of samples, digestions and volumetric preparation of geochemical samples - allocation of tasks will vary per workload. Other simple laboratory functions performed as required. Carry out housekeeping of the Laboratory. Responsible for the quality and quantity preparation of samples for the completion of analysis of samples and be capable of reporting completed jobs to clients. 

The scope of role includes, but is not limited to:

• Understanding of the processes in the preparation and analysis of samples by AAS, pXRF and ICP-OES and MS.

• Fairly delegate tasks to the team of sample preparation and laboratory technicians on a daily basis.

• Monitor productivity of the laboratory and ensure all samples are progressing through the laboratory in a timely manner.

• Day to day upkeep of analytical and sample preparation equipment. Ensure laboratory equipment is in working order.

• Delivery of quality samples to both internal and external customers.

• Reporting of abnormalities to the Operation Manager, e.g. QC Standards.

• Must use appropriate personal protective equipment in the correct manner.

• Understanding of assay methods and recognition of sample types.

• All functions to be performed in correct numerical order and following established procedures.

• Ensure quality and quantities of samples are produced.

• Ensure all laboratory work areas are kept clean and uncontaminated.

• Follows set QC requirements and avoids contamination.

• Authorised limited access to computers.

• Perform general administrative support duties, as required.

• Responsible for managing a team to ensure performance outcomes are aligned with business goals.

• Diploma/Degree Chemistry or relevant qualifications

• Previous laboratory experience preferred

• Current First Aid Certificate desirable
