About the role
Build Relationships. Create Opportunities. Shape What's Next.
At Mercure Townsville, we're not just welcoming guests - we're creating experiences, strengthening partnerships and investing in the future.
As our hotel continues to evolve through exciting refurbishment projects and commercial growth, we're looking for a Business Development Manager who is ready to help shape our next chapter.
This isn't a role where you'll inherit a desk full of accounts and simply maintain them. We're looking for someone who enjoys getting out into the community, building genuine relationships and creating new opportunities that make a real difference to our business.
Reporting directly to the Director of Sales & Marketing, you'll work alongside an experienced leadership team to drive corporate, conference and group business while helping position Mercure Townsville as one of North Queensland's leading hotel destinations.
What You'll Be Doing
As Business Development Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in driving revenue across our accommodation, meetings, conferences and events business.
This is a diverse commercial role that combines proactive business development with the management of inbound opportunities. You'll be responsible for identifying new business, nurturing key relationships and converting qualified inquiries into confirmed business, ensuring every opportunity is maximised.
Your responsibilities will include:
Proactively identifying and securing new corporate, government, association and group business.
Managing inbound sales inquiries and converting reactive opportunities into confirmed bookings.
Preparing tailored proposals, quotations and commercial agreements that meet each client's needs.
Conducting hotel site inspections and showcasing the hotel's accommodation, conference and event facilities.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing clients across North Queensland.
Working closely with Reservations, Revenue Management and Operations to ensure a seamless client journey from inquiry through to delivery.
Representing Mercure Townsville at networking events, industry functions and local business initiatives.
Maintaining accurate client records and sales activity within the hotel's CRM system.
Identifying opportunities to grow market share while maximising revenue across accommodation, meetings, conferences and events.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys connecting with people and takes pride in delivering results.
You'll ideally bring:
Experience in hotel sales, business development or account management.
Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
A commercial mindset with the confidence to negotiate and influence.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Initiative, resilience and a proactive approach.
A passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
