About the Team

The Child Development Service teams provide a family-centred, specialist public health service for children who have complex developmental and behavioural concerns.

Clinical Practice 

• Delivering a range of high level dietetic services to paediatric clients (including assessment, intervention, consultation and case management) in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, with minimal direct clinical supervision.
• Applying independent professional judgement and problem solving skills to a complex caseload, adapting routine clinical practice using valid and reliable evidence. This includes exercising a full/ expanded scope of practice to make evidence informed decisions regarding effective and efficient clinical care.
• Contributing to Child Development Program (CDP) triage and intake processes through consultation with Community Access and Bookings Service (CABS) team as required. Review of Dietetics referral requests as part of local service case allocation processes.
• Acting as a paediatric nutrition resource in community and child development to other dietitians throughout CHQ HHS.
• Accurately and concisely recording all client interactions as well as workload measurement statistics, to facilitate the analysis of service trends.

Team participation 

• Working collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary child development team, as well as with other stakeholders to achieve best practice outcomes for children with complex developmental difficulties.
• Participating in transdisciplinary assessments and interventions that are family-focussed and goal-oriented.

Communication 

• Providing high level clinical advice and support to clients within CDP and to a diverse range of stakeholders including clients in the community.
• Liaising and communicating with team members, other health professionals, supervisors, community groups and students.
• Communicating effectively with clients and their families using strengths-based and family-centred principles of care and dealing professionally and sensitively with client issues.

Leadership/ Service Improvement 

• Initiating, developing and implementing quality and service improvement activities that enhance the delivery of paediatric dietetic and multidisciplinary care.
• Providing clinical practice supervision, training and mentoring to less experienced clinicians and nutrition and dietetic students and contributing to the professional development and education of staff and students across the district.
• Contributing to the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols that support the continuum of care, engaging cross discipline liaison where relevant.
• Participating in and contributing to workforce planning to meet service requirements.
