Primary objective
This position will develop, implement, monitor, report and advise on the culturally appropriateness of programs, services and
operations relating to Aboriginal employees and Aboriginal offenders within Northern Territory Correctional Services.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide support and advice regarding networking with Aboriginal stakeholders, non-government organisations and the
local community.
2. Management of administrative requirements and information dissemination to a range of stakeholders to ensure good
communication to all stakeholders.
3. Develop and implement cultural learning, training and mentoring strategies that assist staff in providing high level services
to Aboriginal prisoners, offenders and their families that is consistent with Departmental policy and legislation.
4. Contribute to the improvement of cultural practice standards and policy initiatives relating to the development,
implementation and monitoring of NTCS programs and services.
5. Liaise and negotiate project and program planning outcomes with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
6. Undertake a range of administrative tasks that support the efficient and compliant management of grants administered,
including maintaining system records.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive practical experience and advanced skills and knowledge relating to project management, procurement and
grants management.
2. Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and advice on issues involving services to Aboriginal peoples and
the ability to provide related training, coaching and mentoring to all levels of staff.
3. Demonstrated ability to apply a strengths based/capacity building approach to staff development activities and
strengthening relationships with Aboriginal families and communities.
4. Demonstrated ability in effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders at all levels, both orally and in writing,
including the ability to communicate across cultures and professional backgrounds.
5. High level written skills and ability to prepare complex documents, provide policy advice, advanced computer skills,
including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
6. Ability to travel to remote communities for periods up to a week at a time in light aircraft or four-wheel drive vehicle.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated sound understanding of, or experience working within, the criminal justice system.
2. Relevant qualifications (e.g. degree in Community Services, Social Work, Community Development).
