The roles

Barista — Casual

You can hold quality under pressure – 300+ coffees on a Saturday without dropping extraction standards or your manner with guests. Latte art is a plus; consistency, cleanliness and speed are the requirement. 

Café Supervisor — Casual

You run the floor during your shift: opening and closing, cash handling, service flow, break management, and coaching the team in the moment. You’re the person who notices the queue building before it becomes a problem. Prior supervisory experience in high-volume café or restaurant service is essential.

Assistant Manager — Full-Time Second-in-charge to the venue leadership team. You’ll own rostering and labour cost within agreed bands, drive daily trading performance, lead recruitment and onboarding for the café team, and step up as the senior decision-maker when the Restaurant Manager is off. This is a genuine development seat — we’re hiring someone we expect to run a venue.

How the process works

Baristas: apply, quick phone chat, then a trial shift. We’d rather see you make coffee than talk about making coffee.

Supervisors and Assistant Manager: apply, phone screen, then an interview with the venue leadership team. A trial shift follows for shortlisted candidates.

About The Nielsen

The Nielsen sits on the water at Nielsen Park in Vaucluse — a restored heritage site and one of the most beautiful places to work in Sydney. The café trades from morning through to late afternoon, seven days, serving a mix of locals, beachgoers and destination visitors, alongside a restaurant and a full weddings and events program.

It’s part of SRG Hospitality Group, a family-founded Sydney restaurant group that started with a single dining room in 2000 and now operates a portfolio of venues across the harbour and the city — including Sails Lavender Bay, Ripples, Ventuno and The Fenwick, plus an exclusive food and beverage partnership with The Langham Sydney. Around 600 people work here. A lot of them have been here a long time, and that’s the point.

All roles are covered by the Restaurant Industry Award. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia. RSA (NSW) required for all roles; Food Safety Supervisor certification required or supported for supervisory roles.
