Based in Surry Hills, our programs are open to children, youth and their families living within the City of Sydney LGA. The families who access our services experience a wide range of financial, social, educational and housing challenges. ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Family Support Coordinator, you will pay a key role in strengthening the wellbeing of children, young people and their families by providing holistic, person centred and trauma informed support. Working in a trauma informed and family systems framework you will empower families to build on their strengths, enhance their capacity and access supports needed to achieve positives outcomes.

The Family Support Program is delivered through a range of service areas, including tailored case management, family wellbeing initiatives, community advocacy, networking, group work, and family-focused projects.

Working collaboratively with the Youth and Children's Programs teams, you will provide coordinated practical and emotional support to families to achieve positive outcomes for children, young people and their families.

ABOUT YOU

As a Family Support Coordinator, you will use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to plan and deliver Family Support programs, including:

• Build trusting relationships with families to provide holistic, client-centred and therapeutic, trauma informed case management support that empowers families to achieve their goals and strengthen well-being.
• Facilitate psychoeducation workshops such as Bringing Up Great Kids Program (BUGK) and other such programs.
• Provide support to parents through coaching and psychoeducation to strengthen confidence and skills.
• Provide information, guidance and referrals to connect families with appropriate community services.
• Work in partnership with families to advocate for their needs and strengthen access to local services.
• Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to create long lasting positive outcomes for families.  
• Coordinate and deliver family engagement activities that foster safe, inclusive and supportive environments.  
• Support with planning, developing and implementing family support projects and programs.
• Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and adaptable in responding to changing service priorities, client needs and organisational developments within a dynamic community services environment.

Essential Criteria

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work or related field.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with complex families or in a similar community services setting.
• Demonstrated strong ability to manage complex caseloads and effectively plan and prioritise work with multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team and exercise initiative, judgement, discretion and sensitivity in a workplace subject to work pressures and changes.
• Knowledge and experience working with socially and financially disadvantaged children, youth and families.
• Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
• Demonstrated ability to create and utilise established referral pathways and use a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to achieve client outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal presentation skills, diplomatic and effective liaison.
• Adhere to legislative requirements and mandatory reporting obligations.
• Proficient IT skills, including Office 365 and the ability to create effective digital communications.
• Participation in ongoing child safety screening requirements including a valid Working With Children Check, National Police Check, and any additional background checks as required.
• Commitment to ongoing child safety training, including refresher training in child protection, mandatory reporting, safeguarding policies and ongoing professional development.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining safe, inclusive and respectful environments for children, young people and families, including maintaining appropriate professional boundaries at all times.

Desirable Criteria

• Knowledge or experience in group facilitation.
• Experience in community engagement.
• Experience in charity or not-for-profit operations.
