Senior Python EngineerContract · Melbourne (Hybrid) · 6-month engagement + likely extensionEvoltech is an Australian technology start-up based in Melbourne, partnering with enterprise clients across financial services to deliver software engineering, integration and cloud solutions. We're currently engaged by a leading Australian bank to help build, deliver and operate business-critical banking platforms — and we're looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join that engagement on a contract basis.You'll work as part of an established Engineering team, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Architects, Designers and fellow Engineers on core banking services and large-scale, technically complex initiatives within a modern, cloud-native and event-driven technology landscape.What you'll be doing• Engineering clean, maintainable, secure and well-tested solutions that support a highly regulated banking environment• Designing and building modern API and event-driven services within a cloud-native architecture• Contributing to and uplifting engineering practices, standards and capabilities across the team• Collaborating with Product, Architecture, Design and other stakeholders to deliver valuable outcomes• Working with modern technologies including AWS, core banking platforms and streaming technologiesWhat you'll bring• Around 8–10 years building and supporting production-grade software within cloud-native environments• Strong Python and AWS engineering capability (incl. AWS Lambda), with an openness to working across multiple technologies and languages• Experience developing API services and working with event-driven architectures — Kafka experience highly regarded• Exposure to large-scale, operationally critical systems and services• Banking / BFSI domain experience preferred; integration experience or knowledge of AML systems will be a plus• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly learn new domains and technologies• Confidence making technical decisions, taking ownership and driving outcomes• A collaborative approach and a genuine passion for continuously improving engineering practicesEngagement details• Type: Contract (day rate)• Term: Initial 6-month engagement, with strong likelihood of extension• Location: Melbourne — hybrid, with regular on-site presence at the client required• Start: 2-4 weeks• Eligibility: Valid Australian work rights required (Australian Permanent Residents / Citizens).
