• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $148,339 to $163,480 + super

Our Conservation and Restoration Science Branch is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Scientist Threatened Species Monitoring and Modelling to lead the design and delivery of high-impact statewide biodiversity monitoring and ecological modelling to support programs that inform conservation outcomes across New South Wales.

In this role, you will influence the strategic direction of threatened species and biodiversity science, leading complex monitoring and modelling projects that support evidence-based policy, conservation and land management decisions. Working within the Science and Insights branch, you will collaborate with scientists, universities, government agencies and research partners to deliver innovative scientific solutions and provide expert advice on biodiversity trends, conservation priorities and ecological outcomes. You will also lead and mentor highly skilled scientists, foster scientific excellence and contribute to some of the state's most significant environmental programs.

About You

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience leading scientifically rigorous ecological research, biodiversity monitoring programs and applied science projects.
• Advanced expertise in ecological modelling techniques, environmental data analysis and interpretation of complex biodiversity datasets.
• A proven ability to deliver customer-focused scientific outcomes that inform policy, conservation and management decisions.
• Strong leadership experience with the ability to mentor, motivate and develop high-performing scientific teams. 
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and experience building collaborative partnerships across government, academia and research organisations.
• Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific information to a range of technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on delivering practical and evidence-based outcomes.

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Ecological Science or similar field.
• A current Class C driver licence and a willingness and ability to travel for work.
