About the role

This is a hands-on position suited to a safety-focused and reliable operator with experience across civil construction, earthworks, drainage, roadworks, subdivisions, utilities or infrastructure projects. The role will involve operating a range of civil construction plant and machinery to complete excavation, trenching, grading, loading, compaction, material placement and site preparation activities. Reporting to the Site Supervisor or Foreman, you will work closely with supervisors, surveyors, engineers, pipelayers, labourers, truck drivers and other operators to deliver works safely, efficiently and to the required project standards.

Key responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate civil construction plant and machinery
• Complete bulk earthworks, detailed excavation, trenching, grading, loading, trimming, compaction and site preparation
• Support drainage, sewer, water infrastructure, underground utilities, roadworks and subdivision activities
• Work accurately to construction drawings, survey controls, line, level, grade and project tolerances
• Coordinate safely with spotters, pipelayers, labourers, truck drivers and other ground personnel
• Conduct daily plant pre-start inspections and basic maintenance checks
• Identify and report plant faults, damage, leaks and unsafe operating conditions
• Complete pre-start forms, logbooks, defect reports, timesheets and other required site documentation
• Maintain exclusion zones, safe separation distances and compliance with site traffic management arrangements
• Maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment

About you

• Demonstrated experience operating civil construction plant and equipment
• Experience or sound knowledge of earthworks, drainage, roadworks or general civil construction
• A strong understanding of safe plant operation around personnel, mobile plant, underground services and overhead services
• Construction White Card
• Current driver licence
• Strong safety awareness and a commitment to following site procedures
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable attendance, punctuality and a professional work ethic
• Ability to undertake plant pre-starts and report mechanical or safety defects
• Capacity to perform the physical and inherent requirements of the position safely
