About the role
We're hiring again — follow your passion for cars with a career at the pointy end of the automotive parts industry.
Two openings for engineering students: build a real career while you study, with hours that flex around your timetable
Become an automotive data subject matter expert with a world leader in automotive data systems
Hybrid work, with potential for study and completion bonuses
Build the data, product and project management skills to accelerate your career, working for a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company
PARts Australia is a data specialist developing technology and analytics to service the global requirements of the automotive industry. We develop and maintain data stores, e-commerce and web-based software solutions, including cutting-edge SaaS and cloud applications for the global automotive aftermarket and consumers. Our products are used by leading industry players including manufacturers, and are integrated with well-known systems and platforms like eBay and e-commerce system integrators.
We're a small but well-supported Australian team backed by global leaders developing great tech in the automotive parts space. We foster a fun, informal and collaborative environment where your input genuinely shapes how the business runs.
We're looking for two engineers to become automotive data subject matter experts — learning our business from the ground up by doing the real customer data work that keeps it running.
Your main focus is helping our customers articulate, present and publish auto parts product and fitment data for millions of parts and catalogue records online. That could mean global marketplaces, local outlets, or their own websites here and internationally.
You'll work with PARts Data Suppliers (manufacturers and brands like ARB, DBA, Gates, NGK and Ryco) and Data Users (eBay, Automotive Superstore, Repco) to understand and meet their data needs in our system.
Each position reports to one of our Product Managers — one supporting our Platform stream, one supporting our Integrations stream — with day-to-day tasking and quality assurance in our broader subject matter expert team.
This is not a software development role — we're looking for engineers who love the automotive industry. You will, however, work hands-on with data and software: running SQL-based data tasks, validating outputs, and generally getting involved with our system operations and platform development.
Customer data delivery — analysing what customers need from their data, then scoping, tracking and delivering it. This includes executing Customer Data Requests, bulk data tasks run against the database using prescribed scripts, progressing through our training stages under supervision.
Catalogue data — working with product and fitment data across the standards the industry runs on (TecAlliance/TecDoc, ACES/PIES and proprietary formats) and learning how data maps across them.
Customer support — helping triage and resolve customer data queries through the PARts Help Desk, handling first-level requests with guidance and escalating the complex ones.
Data quality — reviewing data against established thresholds, cross-referencing between standards, and flagging anomalies before they reach a customer.
Project coordination — helping supervise data entry resources and tools, and keeping processing and publication workflows on time.
Documentation — keeping runbooks and process guides current as workflows evolve, so what you learn stays transferable across the team.
This internship should ideally lead to a full-time position after study, or continued part-time work while you finish. You'll start close to the operational engine — which is the fastest way to learn this industry properly — and for the right person there's a clear path toward product and data operations management as you build domain depth.
Ideally a engineering student at year 3+
Demonstrated interest or hobby-level experience in automotive and cars
Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills
Self-motivated and focused on customer outcomes
Excellent English communication skills, oral and written
Able to work independently or as part of a team
Nice to have
Experience with databases and data analysis using Excel, SQL or other organised data structures
Exposure to the automotive aftermarket parts industry
Familiarity with automotive parts cataloguing or data standards (TecDoc, ACES/PIES)
Understanding of e-commerce platforms and online marketplace data requirements
Experience in team leadership, with aspiration for more
Yes, we have a ping pong table.
Easy-to-get-to central Sydney office and flexible work-from-home options.
Flexible start and finish times built around your studies, with full-time work available over holidays and for industry experience.
Fun, informal and happy work environment with great people and a genuinely good culture.
Start-up team mindset while being part of a global powerhouse.
Excellent career growth with potential to travel while developing your experience locally and globally.
Remuneration and hourly rate depend on experience and skill set, and may include completion or other incentive bonuses to help pay for your studies. We want quality people.
Most importantly, we want the right attitude and a willingness to learn — the rest will take care of itself.
Please submit your resume, contact details, academic results and any other relevant details via the portal. A short summary of why you'd like to be considered would also help us understand you better.
You must be an Australian resident to apply for this position.
Due to the expected number of applicants, only shortlisted candidates will receive a direct response.
