About the role
Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT)
School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)
Full-time (100%), fixed-term position through to 31 December 2029
Base salary will be in the range $106,709.01 - $116,198.52 + 17% super (HEW Level 7)
Based at our St Lucia Campus
Join a team on a mission to create the most sought-after postgraduate artificial intelligence degrees in Australia.
We are seeking a progressive, tech-fluent Principal Learning Designer to work with our academic team in designing and developing a suite of new courses for new postgraduate programs in AI engineering and AI fluency. The position directly reports to the Learning Enhancement Team within the Faculty of EAIT and you will support academic staff in the School of EECS. There is a dotted reporting line to Professor Tim Miller from the School of EECS.
The ideal candidate will design course pathways that prioritise mature engineering practice over traditional high-stakes exams and focus on authentic assessment and competency-based evaluation models.
Because this is a new role assisting in the launch of a flagship suite of programs, you will have creative flexibility to truly shape progressive, learning-focused programs.
Key responsibilities will include:
Advise and assist academic staff in the School of EECS to design, develop, implement, and evaluate learning in new courses in two AI postgraduate programs.
Lead the design of authentic assessments that prioritise learning and continuous feedback over transactional grade chasing and prioritise student portfolio generation over traditional testing.
Lead the training of academic staff to deliver new forms of authentic, competency-based assessment that emphasises learning over evaluation.
Advise academic staff in other computing programs on course design, active learning strategies, and assessment models.
Identify educational digital literacies and create educational resources via a range of digital technologies and tools that support teaching and learning, including platform build.
Relevant degree and experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in designing learning experiences.
Demonstrated experience applying modern pedagogical frameworks to design, develop, and evaluate student-oriented courses, ideally within computer science or a related discipline.
A proven track record in designing authentic, portfolio-based assessments, and/or competency-based assessment that shifts focus to learning over grade-chasing.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable working with technically focused staff.
Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering practical professional development and/or coaching for academic staff.
