Speech Pathologist

About the role 

Mater at Home currently has exciting opportunities for Speech Pathologists to join our dynamic and supportive team. We currently have both permanent and fixed-term opportunities available and are open to discussing full-time or part-time arrangements to suit the successful applicant's experience, availability, and preferences.

This role is based at our South Brisbane campus, with travel in the community to provide services directly to clients in their homes.

You will report operationally to the Mater at Home Speech Pathology Team Leader with indirect reporting to the Director of Mater at Home. 

Salary range: $41.06 - $60.35 per hour plus superannuation and  generous access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 per annum, professional development support (including PD leave and an annual PD allowance for permanent employees), and access to many staff benefits!  

What you’ll be doing 

As a Speech Pathologist with Mater at Home, you will provide high-quality, contemporary speech pathology services to adults with congenital, developmental, and acquired disorders of swallowing and communication. 

Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will provide community-based care across a range of funding streams, including the NDIS, Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), Post Acute Care, and private referrals. 

We welcome applications from Speech Pathologists with experience in: 

• Assessing and managing swallowing and communication disorders in adults 

• Working with NDIS participants and their support networks 

• Supporting clients with complex communication needs, including the use of AAC 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Conduct comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of adults with complex swallowing and communication impairments  

• Provide evidence-based, person-centred intervention for clients with developmental and/or acquired communication and swallowing disorders  

• Support clients in the assessment, prescription, implementation, and review of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems  

• Deliver clinical services to clients referred by hospitals, GPs, specialists, support coordinators, and other referral sources  

• Work collaboratively with clients, families, carers, support coordinators, and other health professionals to facilitate coordinated care and optimal outcomes  

• Undertake assessment, treatment, case management, and review within established clinical governance frameworks  

• Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, service development, and quality improvement initiatives  

• Delegate to and supervise Allied Health Assistants, supporting their ongoing development and effective integration within the service  

• Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality clinical records and documentation  

• Engage in continuing professional development and evidence-based practice to maintain and enhance clinical expertise

About you 

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong commitment to person-centred care, evidence-based practice, and multidisciplinary collaboration. You will have: 

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology  

• Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) and eligibility for a Medicare Provider Number  

• A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check), Disability Worker Screening Card, and National Police Check  

• A current unrestricted Queensland Driver Licence  

• A minimum of two years' experience as a Speech Pathologist, including experience working with NDIS participants with complex developmental and/or acquired communication disorders  

• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills in adult speech pathology practice, including the assessment and management of complex communication and swallowing disorders within a community setting  

• Experience with AAC assessment and intervention (highly regarded)
