About the role
Coolamon Shire Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Building Surveyor to join our team on a full-time basis. Based in Coolamon, NSW, this role is fundamental to ensuring compliance with environmental health and building standards across our local government area. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on local governance and community services.
Key responsibilities
Undertake assessment of development, construction certificate and section 68 applications.
Conduct critical stage and other inspections of residential, commercial and industrial building/premises for component compliance, safety and building certificates commensurate with level of Accreditation.
Conduct inspections of food premises, accommodation facilities, and other establishments to ensure compliance with food safety, health and hygiene legislation.
Issuing permits, licenses and certificates for food businesses, swimming pools, cooling towers and other regulated facilities.
Where required, undertake compliance and enforcement functions in relation to building, development, health and environmental matters that affect the Local Government Area.
To develop and implement community education programmes in consultation with the Executive Manager, Development & Environmental Services.
To liaise with appropriate/relevant committees and departments, all statutory authorities and agencies, as relevant to the role.
Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed inspection reports and correspondence.
Maintain appropriate level of Building Certification.
What we're looking for
NSW Department of Fair Trading Accreditation Level (A1 – A4) or eligibility to attain accreditation from the Building Professionals Board.
Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role and willingness to obtain additional qualifications where required.
Current WH&S Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
Substantial experience relevant to the role including legislative interpretation e.g. Building Code of Australia, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Public Health Act, Food Act, Local Government Act, applicable Australian Standards etc.
Highly developed time management, planning, administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Problem-solving capability and sound judgement in making decisions on complex compliance matters.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Current driver's licence and willingness to travel within the local government area.
