Grounds Maintenance Coach

Loreto Community Housing provides social and affordable housing services across Tasmania, supporting individuals, families and communities to thrive.

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Grounds Maintenance Coach to join our team. This rewarding role combines the delivery of grounds maintenance services with mentoring and supporting young people facing barriers to employment.

About the Role

As the Grounds Maintenance Coach, you will coordinate and undertake garden, landscaping and property maintenance activities while supervising and mentoring participants in a supportive workplace environment.

You will help participants develop practical skills, confidence and work readiness while ensuring maintenance services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Participant Support

• Coach, mentor and support participants in developing vocational and employability skills.
• Supervise day-to-day work activities and model positive workplace behaviours.
• Foster confidence, motivation and independence.
• Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Grounds Maintenance

• Undertake and oversee grounds, garden and landscaping maintenance across various sites.
• Ensure work is completed safely and to agreed standards.
• Plan daily activities and monitor progress.
• Maintain tools, equipment and vehicles.

Administration and Compliance

• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Communicate effectively with tenants, clients and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies and Work Health and Safety requirements.

About You

You will have:

• A minimum of 2 years' experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture or property maintenance.
• Experience supervising, training, mentoring or supporting others.
• A genuine passion for supporting young people facing barriers to employment.
• Strong communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.
• Sound computer skills and experience maintaining records and reports.
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Selection Criteria

1. Certification in Horticulture, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture or property maintenance.
2. Demonstrated experience supporting, coaching or mentoring individuals facing barriers to employment, education or social participation, with the ability to build confidence, develop skills and support positive personal and vocational outcomes.
3. Practical experience in garden, grounds and property maintenance, including the ability to plan, coordinate and oversee work activities, operate and maintain equipment, and ensure work is completed to a high standard.
4. Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with participants, clients, colleagues and external stakeholders, and prepare clear and accurate records, reports and documentation.
5. Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and prioritise work activities, manage competing demands, coordinate service delivery, and achieve program, performance and contractual objectives within established timeframes.
6. Proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and deliver high-quality, responsive customer service in a professional, respectful and culturally responsive manner.
7. Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety requirements and the ability to identify, manage and mitigate risks, ensure safe work practices, and comply with relevant legislation, organisational policies and contractual obligations.
8. Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, integrity, inclusion and continuous improvement, with the ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement, uphold confidentiality, and actively support the Vision, Purpose and Values of Loreto Community Housing.

Pre-Employment requirements: The successful candidate of this position will require the following: Working with Vulnerable People Registration (or ability to obtain).

National Police Check (or ability to obtain).

Certification in Horticulture.
