About the role
North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (NEMLDC) are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
NEMLDC is a specialist school for children who have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). We are one of five unique Independent Public Schools (IPS) providing specialist speech, language and academic intervention for children from Kindergarten to Year 2. We are not an Education Support facility, and our students typically exit to their mainstream schools at the end of year 2. Staff members work in a collaborative team that includes Teachers, Speech Pathologists, an Occupational Therapist, School Psychologist, Education Assistants and Administration staff. Dedicated staff at NEMLDC focus on developing strong oral language skills to support literacy.
NEMLDC has over 350 students enrolled across three campuses which are co-located with West Morley, Beechboro, and North Balga Primary Schools. Education Assistants may be placed at any campus and may change campus locations according to the needs of the school. The Role
Special Needs Education Assistants at NEMLDC should display strong interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to evidence-based, explicit teaching practices. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, they would support students to achieve positive educational outcomes through consistent and responsive support.
Suitable applicants will ideally contribute to the implementation of programs and individual plans for students at risk under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team. They would support the delivery of these plans, ensure alignment with overall educational outcomes, and maintain accurate records of their implementation. Knowledge of MiniLit and Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) will be highly regarded.
