About the Role

Canberra Grammar School is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking educator to help expand opportunity, challenge and academic growth across the Senior School.

The Assistant Director plays an important role in bringing the School’s enrichment and scholarship vision to life. Working collaboratively with the Director, Heads of Faculty and Heads of Student House, you will coordinate high-quality programmes that identify, inspire and support capable students from all backgrounds.

Within a defined 0.5 FTE leadership portfolio, you will lead the Senior Study Programme and study skills provision, connect academic challenge with student wellbeing, and strengthen the systems through which students are identified, encouraged and supported to participate.

You are an engaging and accomplished educator who combines intellectual curiosity with energy, sound judgement and genuine care for students.

You enjoy bringing people and programmes together, turning ideas into action and creating opportunities that challenge students to think deeply and pursue their potential. You are collaborative and influential, able to guide and coordinate colleagues while respecting established roles and areas of responsibility.

Above all, you believe that academic challenge, enrichment and scholarship should be accessible to every capable student.

Essential Requirements:

You will have:

• A relevant tertiary degree and a recognised teaching qualification
• An ACT teacher’s registration through the ACT TQI or the ability to get one
• Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate enrichment, extension or gifted education programmes in a secondary school, including culture-building, student identification and participation tracking
• Demonstrated capacity to coordinate scholarship, Senior Study and study skills provision, and to manage multiple concurrent programme strands with disciplined planning and consistent follow-through
• Excellent written English, effective interpersonal communication and strong technological literacy
• Hold or be willing to complete relevant First Aid certifications
• A conviction that enrichment, challenge and scholarship are entitlements for all capable students, with understanding of inclusive design and the identification of high-potential students across diverse cohorts

Desirable Experience:

Ideally, you will also bring:

• Experience using student data to identify participation and access gaps and coordinate targeted outreach with pastoral and academic teams
• Experience coordinating university, research or external partnerships and translating research into effective school practice
• Contemporary knowledge of gifted and high-potential education, academic wellbeing and study skills
• Experience in scholarship governance, philanthropic reporting or programme compliance

• Appropriate qualifications
• A valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card
• A current National Police Check
