The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Assistant Manager, Applications to provide a critical role within the Post Sentence Branch.
About The Business Unit
Reintegration and Engagement Services leads interventions and support programs designed to reduce reoffending, including risk assessment, case management, offender rehabilitation programs, and reintegration services. Within this area, the Post Sentence Branch oversees the governance and administration of Victoria's post-sentence scheme, managing serious sex and violent offenders who have completed their sentences but continue to pose an unacceptable risk, ensuring compliance with the Serious Offenders Act 2018 through ongoing supervision, detention, and coordinated service delivery.
About The Role
The position of Assistant Manager, Court Applications is a leadership role in a team responsible for ensuring that high quality, timely applications are made for offenders who are identified as suitable for, or are already subject to, a Detention or Supervision Order pursuant to the legislation.
Some Of Your Duties Will Include
Represent the Secretary at court for applications, renewals, revocations and/or reviews of orders pursuant to the SOA.Prepare reports, briefs and correspondence for senior executives and the Minister for Corrections in relation to applications and reviews for Supervision and Detention Orders under the SOA and ensure applications are filed in line with court expectations.Manage the preparation of recommendation reports for court, special reports to the Post Sentence Authority, identification/approval of accommodation and service options.Manage the timely dissemination of information to legal representatives and departmental witnesses in support of applications, reviews and renewals.Attend case conferences as required and provide instructions to law firms in relation to SOA applications.Assist the Manager with effective management of the Applications team by supervising team members and supporting their professional development.Provide authoritative and specialist advice, information and assistance to senior managers, location staff, justice agencies and other departments in relation to DSO application processes.
Please note in this role you will be exposed to sensitive and explicit material relating to serious sex and serious violent offending on a regular basis.

Qualifications/requirements
Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience working in a Correctional environment and/or within a legislative framework is desirable, but not mandatory.The position requires you to be assessed as suitable to provide evidence at court on behalf of the Secretary within 12 months of commencement in the role. Suitability is determined by either the Director Post Sentence Branch or Deputy Commissioner Reintegration and Engagement Services Division.
