As our services continue to grow, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Allied Health Assistant with a strong interest or background in Speech Therapy to join our multidisciplinary team.
About the Position
The Allied Health Assistant – Speech Therapy will work under the direction, delegation and supervision of qualified Allied Health Professionals, particularly Speech Pathologists.
You will assist in implementing therapy programs designed by clinicians and support children, adolescents and adults to work towards their individual communication and functional goals.
The role may involve supporting participants with:
- Speech and pronunciation
- Expressive and receptive language
- Communication development
- Social communication and interaction
- Literacy and comprehension
- Fluency and stuttering programs
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Communication devices and visual supports
- Early childhood communication development
- Play-based communication activities
- Feeding programs where appropriately delegated by the treating clinician
- Functional communication in home, school and community environments
You will work collaboratively with Speech Pathologists and other members of our multidisciplinary Allied Health team.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Implement Speech Pathology therapy programs under the delegation and supervision of a qualified Speech Pathologist.
- Conduct structured therapy activities in accordance with individual treatment plans.
- Support participants to practise communication, language, social and functional skills.
- Assist with implementation of AAC and communication strategies as directed by the Speech Pathologist.
- Prepare therapy materials, visual resources, communication boards, flash cards and other therapeutic resources.
- Support children through developmentally appropriate and play-based therapy activities.
- Reinforce therapy strategies across clinic, home, school and community environments.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, teachers and other professionals within the boundaries of the delegated role.
- Observe participant responses and accurately communicate progress or concerns to the supervising clinician.
- Maintain accurate, professional and timely progress notes and clinical documentation.
- Complete required pre-session preparation and post-session documentation.
- Follow individual therapy plans, risk assessments and participant support requirements.
- Maintain participant privacy, dignity, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, training and professional development.
- Work collaboratively with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and other members of the Flourish multidisciplinary team.
- Comply with Flourish Holistic Services policies, procedures and NDIS Quality and Safeguards requirements.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone who is compassionate, organised, reliable and confident working with people with disability.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an Allied Health Assistant or experience supporting Speech Therapy/Speech Pathology programs.
Highly Desirable Experience
Experience supporting participants with one or more of the following would be highly regarded:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Global Developmental Delay
- Intellectual Disability
- Speech and language delays

- Non-verbal or minimally verbal communication

- NDIS participants and their families
Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants should ideally have:
- Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance, or
- Relevant Allied Health Assistant qualification, or
- Current study towards Speech Pathology or another relevant Allied Health qualification.
- Previous experience assisting with Speech Pathology programs is highly desirable.
- Experience working within the disability, NDIS, paediatric or community health sector.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent clinical documentation and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to follow delegated therapy plans and professional instructions.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining appropriate clinical supervision.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain one.
- Current Working with Children Check where required.
- National Police Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Current Australian driver's licence and reliable access to a vehicle for community-based work.
