About the role
Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) Inc. is a community-based, specialist service that provides trauma-informed, evidence-based therapeutic supports to victim-survivors of sexual violence, their personal and professional supports, and the broader Tasmanian community. We deliver primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention programs, envisioning a world free from sexual violence where safety, respect and consent is upheld. We challenge the cultural norms and systems that perpetuate sexual violence and cause harm. We lead change through advocacy and by working alongside the community in prevention, early intervention, response, recovery, and healing.
Our vision is a lutruwita / Tasmania free from sexual violence where safety, respect and consent is upheld.
SASS offers a wide range of services, including free and confidential counselling, case management, crisis support, advocacy, and education. We provide statewide services aimed at young people including Consent and Relationships Education (CaRE) Program, ELEVATE: Understanding and Responding to Sexual Harm, and PAST (Prevention, Assessment, Support and Treatment of Harmful Sexual Behaviours) program, ensuring that our impact extends beyond crisis intervention to long-term cultural and systemic change.
As a Board Member, you will:
SASS is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our work. We believe that diverse perspectives and experiences enhance our ability to deliver compassionate, effective services to the community. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, LGBTIQA+ individuals, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups, and people of all ages and abilities.
Our Board seeks to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and to ensure that all voices, particularly those of marginalised communities, are heard and respected in our governance and decision-making processes.
We are seeking individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Previous Board or governance experience is highly regarded but not essential. Passion, integrity, and a commitment to SASS’s vision and purpose are key.
Board members are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings, or more frequently as required, and to participate actively in a Board subcommittee.
If you are interested in joining a progressive organisation committed to preventing sexual violence and supporting victim-survivors, please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your interest in the role and relevant experience to Audrey Mills, Chair SASS Board via the "Apply Now" button.
