First XIII Rowing Coach

Wilderness School is a non-denominational day and boarding girl’s school educating students from Early Learning Centre through to Year 12.  Since 1884, Wilderness School has prepared girls to be adventurous, courageous, responsible, and respectful learners and leaders.  At Wilderness, we strive to enable each student to be the best that she can be.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Rowing and working closely with the Head Rowing Coach, the Rowing First XIII Coach will play an important role in delivering a high-quality rowing program and supporting our athletes to reach their full potential.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Coaching and developing the First XIII crew in line with the School’s rowing program and prescribed training plans.
• Delivering engaging, positive and purposeful training sessions focused on technical development, fitness and performance.
• Implementing Rowing Australia technique and the technical objectives established by the Head Rowing Coach.
• Providing constructive feedback, encouragement and support to athletes.
• Fostering a positive team culture built on teamwork, discipline, respect and personal growth.
• Attending scheduled training sessions, regattas, camps and coaches’ meetings.
• Working collaboratively with the Director of Rowing and wider coaching team.
• Supporting athlete safety, wellbeing and appropriate conduct both on and off the water.
• Taking responsibility for the care, preparation and basic maintenance of rowing equipment.
• Supporting the safe and effective operation of training sessions and regattas.

About you

We are looking for a coach who combines strong rowing knowledge with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• Relevant rowing coaching experience and qualifications.
• Strong knowledge of rowing technique and coaching practices, aligned with Rowing Australia standards.
• Level 2 Rowing Australia Coaching Accreditation
• Strong swimming ability.
• Knowledge of rowing equipment, fleet upkeep and maintenance.
• Current Provide First Aid and CPR accreditation.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A positive, encouraging and collaborative approach to coaching.
• A strong commitment to student safety, wellbeing and development.
• An understanding of and commitment to the values of Wilderness School.
