Salary: $113,587 - $138,321 p.a plus super

The opportunity

Working within the Software Systems and Integration Unit, you will design, build and own our data warehouse, ETL pipelines and dashboards, enabling near real-time monitoring, reporting and deep-dive analysis of operational data.

This is a practical, hands-on data engineering role. The data happens to come from laboratory and clinical systems, but no clinical, genomics or scientific background is required — you will collaborate with domain experts, developers and operational teams to create scalable, reliable and well-designed data solutions.

What you’ll do

• Design, build and maintain a data warehouse consolidating data from multiple source systems
• Build and operate reliable ETL/ELT pipelines feeding the warehouse
• Develop dashboards and reports (we use Metabase) for monitoring, reporting and self-service analytics
• Perform deep-dive analysis with SQL to answer operational and business questions
• Ensure data quality and validation across pipelines and datasets
• Work with non-technical stakeholders to turn reporting needs into well-designed dashboards and data models

What you’ll bring

• 3+ years of experience as a data engineer, analytics engineer, BI developer or similar
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in production
• Strong SQL: complex queries, data modelling and query optimisation on relational databases
• Data warehousing experience — designing and building, not just querying
• Experience building dashboards with a modern BI tool (Metabase highly regarded; Tableau, Power BI, Looker or similar also welcome)
• Solid Python for data work, and experience with version control (Git)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Nice to have: Metabase specifically, AWS (other clouds also valued), orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt), Docker and CI/CD
