About the role
You’ve built AI-assisted workflows that actually work, and regularly use AI to solve problems. You want to do more of that, on real client work, alongside an organisation who is embedding AI at scale. This is the role for you.
Allen + Clarke is a New Zealand and Australian management consultancy of around 65 people. We work with government agencies, community organisations, and businesses across Australia, Aotearoa, and the Pacific on strategy, evaluation, and complex social and public sector problems. We give a damn about the work and the communities it affects.
The role
This is a specialist role built around applying AI skills you already have, not developing them from scratch. At least 65% of your time will be on billable client work, applying AI tools to support consulting delivery. The rest will be spent supporting our Group AI Manager on Allen + Clarke ’s AI automation and agent-building programme – owning defined pieces of work, not just assisting with structured tasks.
Day-to-day you will reframe problems for AI-assisted delivery, run language models and automation tools on live client work and check outputs against the evidence and the brief. You will also work with our Group AI manager on Allen + Clarke ’s automation and agent-building programme- building and maintaining workflows, testing and refining agent configurations and taking ownership of defined pieces of work end to end.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone with 1-2 years’ experience building AI-assisted workflows or automation.
Specifically, we want someone who:
· Has demonstrated experience or understanding of using Claude in an enterprise environment (building skills, agents or workflows)
· Has experience using AI systems to solve problems rather than just following a specific workflow
· Has applied AI tools to analyse or synthesise real information
· Can organise information well, ask good questions and work through ambiguity
· Approaches work with curiosity and can work well in a collaborative environment
· Some experience with APIs, cloud platforms (e.g. Azure), or MCP connectors is desirable but not necessary
Above all, we're looking for genuine passion for AI. You are curious, motivated, and eager to continuously learn, build, and improve, and you want to grow with us as we scale our AI capability.
Why this role
This is a genuine opportunity to apply AI skills you have already built, on real client work with real stakes. You will work with real clients from day one, with real accountability for the quality of the work you produce. This is the perfect role for someone with technical skills, who wants to work collaboratively in a team and apply their skills directly on client projects.
You will also benefit from working with our Group AI Manager on Allen + Clarke ’s automation and agent-building programme, taking on defined ownership rather than just assisting.
Working in the office
This is a permanent, Melbourne-based role. We work in the office three days a week, because good consulting is built on relationships and the fastest learning happens alongside the people you work with.
How to apply
Apply with your CV and a cover letter explaining how you've used an LLM to solve a real problem. Tell us what the problem was, how you approached it, and how the LLM helped. We're interested in your judgement and your thinking process, not how polished your prompt is.
Please also include or describe a real artefact you've built, such as a Claude skill, project, agent, or automated workflow. We'd like to see something you've created, not just read about it.
The interview will include a practical exercise using Claude to work through a real consulting task. We'll be looking at how you approach the problem and make decisions, not just the final output.
