Vela APX delivers finance, administration, payroll, and HR support to an increasing portfolio of software companies in Australia, New Zealand, India, the UK, and Singapore. We are growing our finance team to keep pace with ongoing expansion and recent acquisitions.

About the role

This position plays a key role within the finance function, supporting the Finance Manager and Group Financial Controller (GFC) in managing financial, commercial, and compliance matters across our software companies in the retail, construction, payroll, and accounting sectors. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality financial analysis, maintaining data integrity, identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies, and ensuring the effective execution of daily processes and adherence to deadlines.

Main responsibilities include:

• Ensure the successful completion of the monthly and quarterly financial deliverables, month end close activities and associated reporting for a selected group of businesses.

• Assist in the preparation and updating of the Portfolio monthly/quarterly QSR reporting.

• Contribute to effective formulation, documentation and sharing of processes, policies, and procedures.

• Mentoring of junior accountants to assist with their ongoing training and development.

• Effective stakeholder relationship management with an emphasis on fostering excellent business partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, or other relevant professional qualification

• CA/CPA membership or equivalent OR working towards it

• At least 3 years of experience in a in a related role, preferably within a commercial software environment

• Solid understanding of core accounting principles and applicable accounting standards 

• You thrive in tackling challenges head-on and finding creative solutions

• Highly effective communication skills with high attention to detail 

• Tech savviness and experience with computerized accounting packages

• Energetic and self-motivated being able to work autonomously and in a team-based environment

• High level of adaptability/flexibility coupled with a keenness to learn
