Senior Project Officer - Remote / Work from Home

This is an exciting opportunity to join Wildlife Health Australia as a Senior Project Officer, offered on a full-time fixed-term basis until June 2027. This role will focus on First Nations engagement and key capacity building projects to support strong, collaborative wildlife health outcomes.

Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) is the national body for wildlife health, and was established in 2002. Our purpose is to advance wildlife health for a healthier future for all. We bring together experts, governments and communities to understand and respond to wildlife health issues—building resilient systems, sharing knowledge, and embedding a One Health approach.

About the role

In this role, you’ll help shape WHA’s engagement and collaboration with First Nations communities and organisations, largely through the delivery of capacity building workshops on current and emerging wildlife health issues. You’ll manage projects, build strong stakeholders relationships, offer technical advice, and with our First Nations partners co-create culturally informed resources to strengthen Australia’s wildlife health system.

What you’ll do

• Apply deep technical knowledge and cultural understanding to work involving First Nations communities and organisations.
• Lead, deliver and report on WHA projects of a scientific, capacity building or specialised nature.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and management of Australia’s wildlife health system.
• Ensure effective and appropriate capture, management and sharing of wildlife health data and/or information relating to WHA projects.
• Participate in and provide support for WHA’s contribution to Australia’s standards, guidelines and policies.

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, caring for Country, First Nations perspectives of wildlife health and disease surveillance and management.
• High level skills and demonstrated experience in project management, contract management, accurate record keeping, fact finding, data collection, analysis and interpretation.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering capacity-building activities, including facilitating large stakeholder meetings, delivering training and developing culturally appropriate resources.
• Experience developing national wildlife health-related guidelines, frameworks and training resources is highly regarded.
• Advanced computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office and ability to assist with website and data systems management.
• Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications.
• Demonstrated general administrative skills, including chairperson and group facilitation skills.
• Willingness and capacity to travel.

Qualifications & Licences

The candidate must hold qualifications in one of the following disciplines:

• A degree in human health, animal health, One Health or wildlife disease/ecology, relevant to the role.

• A current Australian Drivers’ License.

Salary for this position is $121,209 per annum plus superannuation.
