Primary Design Engineer / Designer

About the Role
We are seeking a Primary Design Engineer/Designer to join our supportive and passionate team.
This role focuses on zone substation primary design, including:

• 66kV GIS buildings

• 22kV AIS systems

• Control building design projects

This is a hands-on engineering role contributing to the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality substation designs from concept through to detailed design.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver primary substation design solutions (including substations up to 500kV, earthing, lighting, and cable design)

• Develop designs in line with AS 2067, relevant standards, and Safety in Design requirements

• Coordinate with secondary, civil, and project teams to ensure integrated design delivery

• Review and verify internal and external design outputs and manufacturer drawings

• Support scoping and estimation of primary design works

• Contribute to design standards, technical improvements, and innovation initiatives

• Ensure designs meet safety, quality, and project objectives

About You

• Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)

• Experience in the electrical/power industry, ideally within substation design

• Strong understanding of primary substation design (distribution & sub-transmission)

• Experience with AutoCAD

• Understanding of Safety in Design principles

• Working towards or holding NER / RPEng / RPEV (or equivalent)

• RPEQ (advantageous)
