Clinical Psychologist - Medical Advisory

About the role:

The Medical Advisory Unit is located in the Recruitment and Deployment Division within the Human Resources Department. The Medical Advisory Unit provides expert occupational health services and advice to support the operational and recruitment activities of Victoria Police including:

• Fitness for duty assessment through the Direction to Attend (DTA) the Police Medical Officer process.
• Medical screening for Police, Protective Security Officer (PSO) and Police Custody Officer (PCO) recruitment.
• Medical testing and screening of specialist police positions.
• Occupational exposure health surveillance.
• Specialist occupational medical advice and support.
• Maintenance of a Medical Advice Line for potential blood borne virus and body fluid exposure.
• A range of drug and alcohol testing regimes including: random testing; targeted testing, critical incident testing and designated work unit/function testing.

The Clinical Psychologist role will primarily work with a Police Medical Officers to conduct complex fitness for duty assessments.  The Clinical Psychologist will also report to the Senior Police Medical Officer

• One (1) part time (FTE0.5), ongoing position available

Your duties will include:

• Conduct psychological assessments to determine fitness for duty;
• Provide clinical advice, coaching and support to colleagues, senior managers and the organisation on the management of complex clinical, risk and psychological health issues;
• Provide advice to treating clinicians on the psychological requirements of policing;
• Work collaboratively with the personnel psychologists to review and refine recruitment selection processes and criteria;

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience: 

• Experience performing fitness for duty assessments;
• Experience performing functional assessments (i.e. neuropsychological) would be highly regarded;
• An understanding of the unique pressures of high risk and safety critical occupations
• Sound clinical knowledge and experience;
• Proven ability to work within a complex organisational structure;
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Position primarily within the Medical Advisory Unit, Victoria Police Centre, 33/311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
• Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
• Full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required. An AHPRA registration number must be provided.
• Membership or eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and APHPR endorsement in a relevant area of practice will be highly regarded.

• The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
