About the role
About Us
Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC) is a vibrant, active sailing club located on the water, at The Spit in Mosman. We deliver premium on and off water experiences and events for our members, their guests, and visitors. From multi-day regattas, to weekday and weekend racing, together with corporate events and private waterfront functions, MHYC is an iconic harbourside destination serving the local community.
About the Role
We are looking for an energetic Venue and Event Manager to take charge of our club hospitality and event operations. This is a hands-on role where you will be the face of the club's onshore delivery. Reporting to the CEO, you will look after day-to-day venue operations, ensuring our members and the public have an enjoyable experience, while also managing and growing venue hire and event bookings. You will manage everything from casual member catchups to large-scale shoreside regatta logistics, balancing the demands of a competitive sailing calendar with a busy commercial venue.
What You'll Be Doing
Event management: Take responsibility for delivery of private functions and corporate venue hire, to execution of major or multi-day club events like the Sydney Harbour Regatta and charity regatta days.
Managing day-to-day operations: Overseeing hospitality staff rostering, stock management and ordering, and ensuring the space is prepared and ready for service.
Stakeholder management: Building strong relationships with our members, guests, and on-site commercial tenants
Financial management: Managing event and venue budgets, keeping a sharp eye on costs to ensure we operate profitably.
Team leadership: Managing and training our hospitality staff, setting the standard for great service on the floor.
Coordinating operations: Working closely with suppliers, contractors, and internal club stakeholders to keep everything running smoothly.
Growing the business: Driving commercial venue hire by actively promoting our spaces.
Maintaining standards: Staying on top of health and safety, RSA regulations and ensuring we operate within licensing regulations.
Coordinate event bookings: Balancing private bookings and commercial hires alongside our busy competitive sailing schedule.
What We're Looking For
Proven experience: At least 5 years of hands-on experience running a venue, hospitality team, or events space.
Leadership skills: A strong manager who knows how to motivate a team and manage staff effectively.
Sharp organisational skills: You know how to sweat the details while keeping the big picture in view.
Financial sense: Experience in budgeting, cost control, and tracking profitability.
Great communication: The ability to deal easily with everyone, from corporate clients and suppliers to a crew of competitive sailors.
Tech capability: Confidence using event management software and standard IT systems including Swiftpos.
A cool head: The ability to solve problems on the fly and handle the pressure of a fast-changing environment.
Flexibility: A willingness to work the evenings and weekends dictated by event bookings and the club racing calendar.
Relevant background: Qualifications in hospitality or event management are highly regarded, as is any understanding of club or marine environments.
What We Offer
MHYC provides a fast-paced and rewarding work environment where hard work and results are recognised. We offer competitive remuneration commensurate with experience, and opportunities for development. You will also have access to our club facilities and member benefits. Join a team that is passionate about delivering operational excellence in one of Sydney's most iconic waterfront locations.
