Group Coordinator

The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre (WTRC) is seeking a passionate and organised Group Coordinator to lead the coordination and delivery of therapeutic, creative and holistic group programs that support women recovering from domestic, family and sexual violence.

Working closely with the Holistic Wellbeing & Groups Team Leader, you will play a key role in designing, coordinating and continuously improving a diverse range of healing-focused programs while building strong partnerships with facilitators and community organisations across the Illawarra.

About the Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre:

The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre (the ‘Centre’) is an Australian first community-led initiative, codesigned with women with lived expertise, professional experts and service providers to offer comprehensive and long-term support to women recovering from the trauma of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV). Strongly aligned with local, state and national priorities, including The National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032, the Centre supports women to heal from trauma arising from domestic, family and sexual violence, and to improve the long-term health and psychosocial outcomes for women and families. The Centre is a project of the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre.

Established in 1986, we are nationally accredited and provide a safe place for women to access specialised high-quality women’s medical, therapeutic and wellbeing services. 

The Centre also offers various health and well-being workshops, programs, community-based group activities, and support groups. Our services evolve in response to the needs of women and girls in the region, shaped by evidence of effective practice and local, state, and national policy contexts.

Our services and programs are provided at little or no cost to all women in the Illawarra.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

• Coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of creative, therapeutic and holistic group programs that support women’s healing and recovery.
• Develop and maintain engaging group offerings that respond to client needs using trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice.
• Coordinate group logistics including scheduling, waitlists, attendance, budgets and promotional activities.
• Liaise with facilitators, clinicians and external providers to ensure high-quality, client-centred program delivery.
• Act as Primary Practitioner for allocated clients, supporting their healing journey through ongoing engagement, goal monitoring and participation in Shared Care planning.
• Monitor and respond appropriately to risks relating to domestic, family and sexual violence, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and child safety.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated, holistic support for women accessing the service.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organisations, facilitators and referral partners across the Illawarra.
• Develop resources and promotional materials to encourage participation and community engagement.
• Maintain accurate records, group documentation and reporting requirements.
• Participate in supervision, reflective practice, service development and continuous improvement activities.

Essential Criteria for the role:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A genuine interest in, and commitment to, the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre’s vision, mission and values.
• Qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Mental Health or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with women and families impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence.
• Experience developing, coordinating or facilitating therapeutic, wellbeing, community or group-based programs.
• A strong understanding of trauma-informed, client-centred and strengths-based practice.
• Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to develop collaborative partnerships across community services.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple programs and competing priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated compassion, empathy and professionalism when supporting women experiencing complex trauma.
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while also working independently.
• A commitment to reflective practice, professional ethics and self-care.

Desirable Criteria for the role:

• Experience working with people from diverse communities or lived experience of diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ communities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, neurodivergent people and people with disability.
• Current professional membership relevant to your discipline.
• Fluency in a community language other than English.
• Experience working within feminist organisations, community services or social enterprise.
• Previous experience working within a therapeutic or trauma recovery environment.

Salary

Salary will be paid in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award Level 5 plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits.
