About the role

Copper Bar and Grill Restaurant is seeking an experienced and passionate Cook / Grill Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is a full-time position based in South Townsville, QLD 4810. In this role, you will be at the heart of our culinary operations, specialising in grill techniques whilst maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and presentation. You will play a crucial part in delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests, working collaboratively with our kitchen brigade to execute our menu with precision and creativity.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a wide variety of grilled dishes, including meats, seafood and vegetables, using advanced grill techniques and maintaining consistent quality standards

• Follow standardised recipes and plating presentations to ensure every dish meets our restaurant's quality expectations

• Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic station, adhering strictly to all food safety and hygiene regulations

• Manage food inventory at your station, minimising wastage whilst ensuring adequate stock levels for service

• Collaborate effectively with other kitchen team members to ensure seamless service during peak and non-peak hours

• Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is cooked to perfection and meets health and safety standards

• Respond to feedback from chefs and management, continuously improving your techniques and adapting to menu changes

• Assist with food preparation tasks as required, including prep work and mise en place

• Support the training and mentoring of junior kitchen staff when needed

• Contribute to maintaining a positive, professional and safety-conscious kitchen environment

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Cook or Grill Chef in a professional kitchen environment, ideally within a restaurant or hospitality setting

• Strong knowledge of grill cooking techniques, including temperature control and timing for various proteins and vegetables

• Proficiency in knife skills and food preparation techniques

• Excellent understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards, with a commitment to maintaining these standards consistently

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining quality and attention to detail during busy service periods

• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff

• Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items and work in a hot kitchen environment

• Flexibility with shift patterns, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required

• Relevant culinary qualifications or certificates (such as hospitality or commercial cookery qualifications) are desirable

• A passion for food, culinary excellence and continuous improvement
