Trades Assistant - Manufacturing

The nature of the business is design, manufacture and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders supporting multiple industries such as mining, construction, transport, energy, automation and customised technology for industrial markets within Australia and globally.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Trades Assistant to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for cutting material to length, organising parts for manufacturing, working with purchasing and the production manager to meet stock logistics and maintain our quality and performance standards. This is a hands-on position suited to someone with strong logistical aptitude and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate Machinery: Run manual band saw machines to cut raw materials safely and efficiently.

• Read Cutting List: Review cutting lists, material grades and cut specifications before starting a job.

• Measure & Inspect: Use tape measures, calipers, or micrometers to verify part dimensions and ensure high quality.

• Machine Setup & Maintenance: Adjust blade speed, tension, and feed rates. Change worn-out blades and perform basic daily upkeep on the saw.

• Material Handling: Load and unload raw stock using overhead cranes, hoists, or forklifts.

• Inventory & Record Keeping: Track material usage, count finished parts accurately, and label scrap or leftover stock.

• Safety & Cleanliness: Follow all safety rules, wear proper PPE, and keep the work area clean and hazard-free

• Team: Work collaboratively with team members to meet production targets

What We're Looking For

• Experience: Previous experience operating a band saw or working in a manufacturing environment.

• Math Skills: Ability to read a tape measure and work with basic measurements, fractions, and decimals.

• Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long shifts and lift materials safely.

• Work Ethic: Reliable, detail-oriented, and willing to follow strict safety procedures
