Yard hand / trade assistant

About the role

GSJ Fabrications is seeking an experienced Yard Hand / Trade Assistant to join our team in St Marys. This is a full-time position that offers a fantastic opportunity to work within a busy fabrication and trades environment. You'll be based on-site at our St Marys workshop, the role will include task such as supporting our skilled tradespeople maintaining the smooth operation of our yard, loading and unloading of trucks. This role is essential to our day-to-day operations and directly contributes to the successful delivery of our projects.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting qualified tradespeople with various fabrication and construction tasks

• Preparing and organizing materials in the yard

• Maintaining a clean, safe and well-organized work environment in compliance with health and safety standards

• Loading, unloading and moving materials and finished products using appropriate handling techniques and equipment

• Performing general labouring duties including sweeping, cleaning and waste disposal

• Supporting trades staff by gathering and preparing materials required for specific jobs

• Adhering to all workplace safety procedures and reporting any hazards or incidents

What we're looking for

• Proven experience working as a yard hand, trade assistant or in a similar labouring role within the trades or fabrication industry

• Strong understanding of health and safety practices relevant to trading and fabrication environments

• Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour tasks consistently throughout the day

• Excellent teamwork and communication skills with the ability to take direction from supervisors and tradespeople

• Reliability and punctuality with a strong work ethic

• Basic numeracy and literacy skills

• Willingness to learn and develop new skills on the job

• Valid driver's license is desirable

• Must have forklift ticket
