About the role

As a rail freight service operator, we strive to deliver assets of the highest quality, while also providing overall quality of service that is second to none. This includes heavy haulage rail freight services in Australia, grain and coal haulage and locomotive and rollingstock maintenance.

Therefore, we are excited to invite applications for a full time Health Safety & Environmental Officer to join the team at our Bendigo Head Office.
As the Health Safety & Environmental Officer you will identify, assess and advise of risks arising from the workplace and/or work processes and identify measures to eliminate or minimise and control the risks.
Duties involved, but not limited to:
Assist in maintaining the Organisations HS&E system and ensure that polices and procedures are complied with by all staff.
Attend workshops HS&E meetings and provides meeting minutes and safety concern action plans through to the management team.
Liaise with fellow HS&E representatives within the Organisation as required to ensure all concerns are actioned quickly and communicated to management.
Daily updates of safety boards.
Daily reporting of safety status and safety concerns action in the supervisor meetings.
Conduct incident investigations and identify mitigation and control measures.
Ensure that those responsible implementation of mitigation and controls by overseeing investigation until its complete closure.
Review and maintain all HS&E systems and processes including registers to ensure they are always ready for audit.
Conduct spot and scheduled safety audits and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
Drive continuous improvement throughout the HS&E system and processes.
Interface with fellow HS&E employees within the Organisation as required to ensure regulatory compliance prior to implementing actions.
Assist with the response to any regulatory notices of requirements, in conjunction with Company lawyers.
Attend meetings as required.
The successful applicant must demonstrate the following:
Prior working experience in HS&E or similar role
Qualifications in Safety, Risk, Compliance, or related field
Understanding of both NSW & VIC Work Health & Safety Acts highly regarded
Incident investigation skills
Previous experience in a dynamic, fast pace environment, with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail
Professional and positive can do attitude
Commitment to a safety first culture
Friendly, approachable personality who enjoys being part of a close knit supportive team
Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one
