Operations & Wholesale Manager — Artisan Bakery

About the role

We’re looking for an Operations & Wholesale Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day running of our wholesale operation and become the main point of contact between our customers, bakery team and business owners.

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who is highly organised, confident dealing with customers and comfortable moving between administration, sales, logistics and practical bakery work.

Some days you’ll be talking with customers, managing orders, sending invoices and developing new accounts. Other days you might be packing bread, organising couriers, making a delivery or solving an operational problem in the bakery.

This is a newly created position with significant autonomy. We’re looking for someone who can progressively take ownership of this side of the business and become a key long-term member of the team.

Key responsibilities

• Managing wholesale customer relationships and being their primary point of contact

• Taking, checking and organising customer orders

• Communicating daily orders and changes clearly with the baking team

• Handling customer enquiries and feedback.

• Packing and organising wholesale orders

• Coordinating deliveries and external couriers

• Completing deliveries when required

• Maintaining strong relationships with existing wholesale customers

• Proactively identifying and approaching suitable new wholesale customers

• Following up leads and introducing the bakery to prospective accounts

• Managing invoicing and following up overdue accounts

• Completing basic Xero administration and reconciliation

• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, organisation and efficiency

• Taking ownership of day-to-day operational issues and resolving problems with minimal owner involvement

About you

You don’t need to be a baker. Experience in hospitality management, account management, sales, logistics, operations or small-business management could all translate well to this position.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Enjoys building strong customer relationships

• Can work independently and take ownership of problems

• Is comfortable using computers and learning new systems

• Can prioritise effectively when several things need attention at once

• Is comfortable with practical, hands-on work

• Has good commercial awareness and understands the importance of profitable sales

• Is proactive and looks for solutions rather than waiting to be told what to do

Experience with Xero, wholesale accounts, hospitality, logistics or sales would be highly regarded, but isn’t essential for the right person.

A current driver’s licence is required.

Sweet Wheat is an established artisan bakery based in Perth, Tasmania, approximately 15 minutes south of Launceston.

We specialise in sourdough bread and pastries, supplying cafés, restaurants and retailers across Northern Tasmania as well as operating a strong weekly market business.

We’re a small, owner-operated business focused on producing high-quality products and building long-term relationships with our customers.

As the business continues to develop, we’re looking for someone who can take genuine responsibility for wholesale operations, help strengthen our existing customer relationships and contribute to future growth.

What we offer

• $75,000–$80,000 + super, depending on experience

• Full-time position
