The Role

The Settlement Worker is responsible for the provision of high-quality case management (Low and Medium complexity casework) and community development initiatives as relevant to role/location. The position operates within MiCare’s Integrated Family and Client Service in the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS). This program aims to empower humanitarian entrants and other eligible permanent migrants and their communities to address their settlement needs.  Through casework, case management, group work and community engagement, the program focuses on: improving social participation, economic wellbeing, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness.  

Key Result Areas

• Deliver high-quality, needs-based case management for eligible clients within specified timeframes as defined by the program guidelines.
• Deliver group sessions/programs and activities as required by role/location.
• Successful engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders and groups, to enhance settlement outcomes for clients
• Accurate record-keeping, compliance with legislative and organisational standards, and contribute to continuous improvement and team development.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

• Tertiary qualification; Diploma in Community Services/Case Management or equivalent experience.
• Desirable: Lived migration experience and/or relevant community language skills; knowledge of local services
• Understanding of refugee and migrant settlement needs and systemic barriers.
• Familiarity with strengths-based case management and community development approaches.
• Knowledge of settlement policies, referral protocols, and relevant legislative frameworks.

Essential skills

• Experience supporting people from migrant and refugee backgrounds through learning and social engagement opportunities.
• Experience in identifying and responding to emerging needs of individuals and community in both groupwork and casework contexts and in partnerships with other agencies.
• Experience in Casework/Case Management, conducting needs assessments, developing and reviewing case plans, and providing information, referral, and advice.
• Excellent relationship management and communication skills including the ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals, communities, and key stakeholders.
• Excellent interpersonal, networking and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated skills in report writing, client data/records collection and entry.
• Strong administration and time management skills. Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines with attention to detail.
• The ability to work in a culturally sensitive and trauma informed manner within an ethno-specific environment.
• Ability to work autonomously and with others in a participative and supportive manner.
• Sound computer literacy and proficiency in use of Microsoft Office.
