This is a Recruitment Pool for Permanent Full Time, Permanent Part Time, Fixed Term Full Time, Fixed Term Part Time and Casual appointment(s) with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

Options for hybrid roles to maintain skills in both paediatric and adult patient settings.

FTE available will be allocated to best suit staffing and service delivery. 

Enjoy family friendly hours - standard hours are between 0800-1700 Monday – Friday, with participation in a voluntary Sunday roster.

About the Position

Are you a dedicated Senior Sonographer with a passion for paediatric care? Join our Medical Imaging team at Perth Children's Hospital, where you will perform a broad range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations for children of all ages - infants, children and adolescents - across outpatient, inpatient, emergency, theatre, NICU and PICU settings.

Working with children is truly special! Alongside developing advanced sonography skills, you will build exceptional communication, empathy and adaptability, helping children and their families feel safe, supported and confident throughout their healthcare journey.

This role involves scanning a wide range of body areas — such as abdomen, head, dopplers, vessels, hips, eyes, musculo-skeletal — with expert guidance and regular image review by a radiologist. You will work closely with a skilled, multidisciplinary team, often in the NICU and ICU, to assess image quality, contribute to clinical decision-making and directly influence patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing routine and specialised paediatric ultrasound examinations across a variety of clinical settings.
• Assisting radiologists with complex and interventional ultrasound procedures.
• Assessing image quality, recognising pathology, and determining whether additional imaging or follow-up is required.
• Collaborating with radiologists, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to support timely diagnosis and patient care.
• Maintaining high standards of patient safety, privacy, equipment care and clinical documentation.
• Participating in weekend and on-call rosters as required.
• Supervising sonography students and contributing to education, quality improvement and service development initiatives.

Previous paediatric experience is highly regarded but not essential. We welcome experienced sonographers from adult healthcare settings and provide comprehensive support and mentoring to help you transition into paediatric practice.

About the Team

Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, Western Australia’s only acute tertiary paediatric centre, our dedicated Medical Imaging Team offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology services to children aged 0-16 years, including inpatients, outpatients, and the Emergency Department.

Our team provides a wide variety of imaging within the subspecialties of interventional radiology, and paediatric cardiac catheterisations, sourced from medical imaging modalities such as general X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy.

We focus on achieving the highest quality imaging studies with a compassionate, child-friendly approach. Our department is equipped with highly specialised facilities and equipment designed to create a safe and comfortable environment for infants, children, and their families.

As part of our dedication to excellence, we benchmark our services through collaboration with other children's hospitals and actively participate in research initiatives. We support research projects and contribute to the advancement of procedures through partnerships with universities and paediatric specialist foundations.
