Operation Smile Australia, headquartered at the Mater Hospital in South Brisbane, is one of over 60 Foundations worldwide dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children.

Operation Smile builds long-term self-sufficiency in resource poor environments by providing corrective surgery and related healthcare to children and young adults as well as training local doctors and medical professionals in its partner countries, so they are empowered to treat their local communities. Operation Smile also donates medical equipment, supplies and provides year-round medical treatment through its comprehensive care centres.

As an Operation Smile Australia International Program Coordinator, you are the key agent coordinating program activities for specified countries. The Program Coordinator’s main role is to be responsible for all activities pertaining to the logistics of planning and executing international programs.

As Administration Assistant you will also assist in the growth and development of the organisation through effective community relations, fundraising and development of the Operation Smile Australia brand.

Hours are flexible so this job may suit a university student or recent graduate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As International Program Coordinator & Admin Assistant you are responsible for the planning, execution, support, and follow-up of Operation Smile’s medical programs in developing countries. This requires the ability to balance several projects at once in both Australia and Internationally. Coordinators strive to build appropriate teams of medical volunteers and are responsible for the logistics associated with our medical programs. While coordinating the logistics of the medical programs, coordinators must be mindful of the mission budget and make fiscally conservative decisions while ensuring patient and volunteer safety and the overall success of the program.

SELECTION CRITERIA - EXPERIENCE:

• International program / project / travel experience preferred.
• Volunteer/service experience preferred.
• Qualifications Business, Non-profit Management, Public Health, International Relations or a related field preferred but not essential.
• Work experience in an international NGO context preferred.

SELECTION CRITERIA - SKILLS:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
• Must have multi-cultural understanding and sensitivity and be able to communicate effectively in such an environment.
• Must have excellent organisational and time management skills and be able to prioritise requests efficiently and effectively.
• Must be able to problem solve and communicate needs appropriately in high pressure situations.
• Must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Must be a highly motivated, driven and committed individual with self-awareness and flexibility.
• Blue Card or ability to obtain one.
