About the role
About the role
SCSA Energy Management is seeking a BMS Service Technician to join our Melbourne-based Building Management Systems (BMS) Service team. Works predominantly in Melbourne CBD. Previous BMS experience is not essential. We’re more interested in finding someone with a good understanding of buildings, mechanical or HVAC systems, and IT/networking who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving and learning new technology. This is a hands-on technical role working across a diverse portfolio of commercial buildings and critical environments. You’ll work with mechanical plant, building controls, software and IP networks to identify faults, improve system performance and help our clients operate their buildings more efficiently.
For someone coming from a mechanical, HVAC, electrical, building services or technical IT background, we can provide the BMS-specific training and support required to develop into the role.
Building automation is changing rapidly. AI, data analytics and increasingly connected building systems will reshape how buildings are controlled, serviced and optimised over the coming years. We intend to embrace that change rather than wait for it. You'll have the opportunity to develop skills not only in traditional BMS and HVAC controls, but also in the emerging technologies that will influence the next generation of smart buildings.
Key responsibilities
Diagnose and resolve BMS, HVAC and building control issues.
Investigate how mechanical plant and control systems are operating and identify opportunities for improvement.
Review and optimise control strategies to improve comfort, reliability and energy efficiency.
Carry out minor BMS upgrades, modifications and system improvements.
Work with HVAC equipment including air handling units, fan coil units, pumps, chillers and associated mechanical plant.
Assist with the integration of equipment using BACnet, Modbus and IP-based networks.
Use BMS software and graphical interfaces to investigate alarms, trends and system performance.
Provide remote technical support and attend client sites when required.
Work collaboratively with clients, mechanical contractors, electricians and other building services specialists.
What we're looking for
You don't need to tick every box. We're looking for someone who is technically capable, curious and willing to learn. Ideally, you will have:
Experience or qualifications in mechanical, HVAC, electrical, building services, controls, IT or a related technical field.
A practical understanding of how commercial buildings and mechanical/HVAC systems operate.
Good computer and IT skills, with an understanding of IP networking being highly regarded.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
The ability to work logically through technical problems.
Good communication skills and the confidence to work with clients and other trades.
A willingness to learn BMS programming, controls and building automation.
An interest in AI, emerging technology and how it can be applied to building automation and energy management.
A current Australian driver's licence.
Must have full work rights in Australia
Previous experience with BMS, building automation, BACnet, Modbus or HVAC controls is advantageous but not essential.
