The Operational Officer (OpO) Program is a RFS initiative to create and encourage a mobile and agile workforce across the state. The program is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of RFS activities in district and regional roles, as well as other specialised sections across the organisation. The role provides a broad range of services in a team environment that lead to better protection of the community from bush fires and other emergencies.

What you’ll be doing:

The NSW Rural Fire Service is seeking an Operational Officer Level 2 to join the Central Coast District Infrastructure team.

Primarily supporting infrastructure activities across the District, this role also has a strong emphasis on vehicle and fleet coordination. Working closely with volunteers, council workshops, contractors, the Fleet Mechanic and the broader team to support fleet and infrastructure needs, you will be instrumental in ensuring RFS vehicles, resources and related infrastructure are maintained, coordinated and ready to support volunteers and operational activity.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting vehicle and fleet coordination across the District
• Liaising with council workshops, contractors and internal stakeholders to progress vehicle maintenance and repairs
• Supporting the Fleet Mechanic with scheduling, follow-up and coordination of fleet-related work
• Monitoring vehicle and infrastructure matters to ensure issues are actioned in a timely and practical manner
• Maintaining records and using RFS systems in accordance with policies and procedures
• Communicating with volunteers and brigade representatives regarding vehicle and infrastructure matters
• Supporting broader District activities, including operational, administrative and preparedness support as required

Our ideal candidate:

You are confident and decisive, have exceptional communication skills, sound judgement and thorough due diligence. Attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, including volunteers, councils and contractors.

You easily manage competing priorities, have systems in place to follow up outstanding actions and ensure accountability, and always keep your stakeholders informed. You also understand the importance of reliable vehicles, equipment and infrastructure in supporting a volunteer-based emergency service.

For this role, we are especially interested in candidates with experience in:

• Fleet or vehicle coordination
• Infrastructure, facilities or asset support
• Working with contractors, workshops or service providers
• Emergency services or volunteer-based organisations
• Scheduling, records management and stakeholder coordination
• Supporting operational readiness through practical logistics or asset management
