Help shape criminal law reform that can improve outcomes across Victoria.You will research complex issues and help turn ideas into practical policy.You will work on major justice reforms that affect people across Victoria.You will build legal policy skills while supporting important government priorities.Ongoing full-time role earning $100,894 - $114,476 per year, plus super.

We provide legal policy and reform expertise to the Attorney-General to deliver on their criminal law policy responsibilities and the legislative reform programWe work collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department to ensure policy reform is strategic, relevant, holistic and people-centredWe are responsible for developing policy and legislative reform in a broad range of areas, including bail, summary crime, counter terrorism, family violence, offence reform (including sexual offences), sentencing, criminal procedure (e.g. committal and appeal processes), jury directions and evidence.

What You Will Do

As a legal policy officer, you will support policy and law reform work across the Attorney-General's portfolio.

You will work with others to develop clear advice and practical options for reform.

You Will

support priority policy and reform projects from planning through to delivery;prepare clear briefings, reports, papers and advice for senior decision-makers;identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities that may affect key reforms;research and analyse legal and policy issues to support sound advice;contribute to important criminal law reforms and build positive working relationships.

About You

A relevant tertiary qualification in law is highly desirable. You should have three years of post-admission or relevant professional experience.

You Should Also Have

legal policy knowledge or relevant legal practice experience, ideally in criminal law;strong skills in analysing legal and policy issues, interpreting laws and giving accurate advice;critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess evidence and develop practical options;clear communication skills, with the ability to write and present information for different audiences.
