Assistant Head of Religious Education - Commencing Term 1, 2027

We are seeking an outstanding Religious Education teacher and aspiring faith and curriculum leader to join our Religious Education Department as Assistant Head of Religious Education, commencing Wednesday 27 January 2027.

This important middle leadership role supports the Head of Religious Education in leading curriculum development, teaching and learning, faith formation, staff development and student achievement across Years 7-12. The successful applicant will contribute to strengthening the Catholic identity and mission of the College through high-quality Religious Education, fostering a rich culture of faith, intellectual inquiry, service and learning grounded in the Catholic and Edmund Rice traditions. This opportunity is ideally suited to an experienced Religious Education teacher seeking to further develop their leadership capabilities while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing department. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to Catholic education and an ability to inspire students in their faith formation, religious literacy and understanding of contemporary social and moral issues.

This is a Permanent Full-Time teaching position with a three-year (1-point) promotional appointment as Assistant Head of Religious Education.

The Assistant Head of Religious Education supports the Head of Religious Education in the effective leadership of the department and assists in ensuring high-quality teaching, learning and curriculum outcomes for students. The role supports the development, implementation and evaluation of Religious Education programs that are faithful to Catholic teaching and aligned with the mission and educational priorities of the College.

Working collaboratively with department staff and College leaders, the successful applicant will contribute to curriculum development and review, support professional learning, analyse student achievement data and promote innovative and evidence-informed teaching practices. The role also supports the integration of Scripture, Catholic theology, Catholic Social Teaching, prayer, spirituality and the Edmund Rice charism throughout the Religious Education curriculum. The successful applicant will be an excellent classroom practitioner, faith leader and collaborator, with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes for both students and staff.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• A strong commitment to the Catholic ethos of a school in the Edmund Rice tradition.
• Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.
• NESA Accreditation and approval to teach in NSW.
• Qualifications and experience teaching Religious Education.
• Demonstrated excellence as a classroom practitioner.
• Leadership experience, or the capacity to support and develop a professional team.
• Strong curriculum knowledge and a commitment to evidence-informed teaching and learning.
• A commitment to faith formation, Catholic Social Teaching and the promotion of Catholic values within the College community.
• The ability to support the development of students' religious literacy, theological understanding and engagement with questions of faith, meaning and morality.
• Exceptional communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build productive relationships with students, staff and families.

Highly Desirable

• Accreditation to Teach Religious Education in a Catholic School (or eligibility to obtain accreditation).
• Postgraduate qualifications in Theology, Religious Education, Leadership or a related discipline.
• Experience mentoring colleagues, facilitating professional learning or leading curriculum initiatives.
