• Salary – MDP2, $99,707.00 - $158,523.00 + 12% Superannuation and Salary Sacrifice Benefits
• Full Time, Temporary (fixed term) contract up until 3 February 2030
• Multiple positions available within Women's & Children's Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre & MedSTAR kids

As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years.  Rotations following the initial 6 or 12 month allocation will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Advanced Neonatal Trainee provides inpatient and outpatient neonatal care in NICU and Special Care, developing management plans with consultant support, leading ward rounds, supervising junior staff, participating in teaching and research, and managing complex ex-premature newborns through evidence-based clinical practice.

Key duties of the role

• Participate in Outpatient Clinics in Neonatal Medicine including the Growth and Development Clinic.
• Assess and manage complex ex-premature newborns in consultation with supervising Consultant.
• Participate in inpatient care, including assessment of new admissions, care coordination, management of the day-to-day progress of assigned patients in the ward, discharge planning, and follow up arrangements.
• Assess and manage acute paediatric or neonatal emergencies.
• Perform emergency and routine patient care procedures under supervision consistent with level of training and experience.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent.
• Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
• Clinical experience and competence in the practice of neonatal medicine.
• Ability to work as an effective team member in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Problem solving and decision-making skills (both clinical and individual).
