About the role
The Department is looking to establish a talent pool to fill immediate and future vacancies in the Department’s Climate and Sustainability portfolio. We currently have one fixed term contract (SLC1) and one permanent contract (SCL2) available, as well as future opportunities at SCL3.
Join our Engineer Water Pool and contribute to shaping sustainable water resource management across Western Australia. As an Engineer within the Department’s Climate and Sustainability portfolio, you will play a key role in delivering expert hydrology advice, supporting evidence-based decision-making, and helping the State respond to challenges such as climate change, population growth and industry demand. Working within specialist surface water and hydrology teams, you will apply your technical skills in analysis, modelling and problem-solving, while collaborating with a range of stakeholders to deliver innovative and practical water management outcomes.
At the Specified Calling Level 1 (SCL1), the Engineer role is suited to early career professionals who are developing their technical capability in surface water hydrology and water resource engineering. You will work under supervision to undertake hydrologic and hydraulic investigations, conduct modelling and analysis, prepare technical reports and contribute to the development of policies, guidelines and strategies. This role provides an excellent opportunity to build foundational experience, communicate technical concepts to varied audiences and gain exposure to field investigations and applied water science.
At the Specified Calling Level 2 (SCL2), the Engineer role is designed for professionals with demonstrated experience who can work with greater independence and apply technical expertise to more complex water resource challenges. You will undertake detailed analysis and modelling of surface water systems, interpret and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and contribute to strategic water planning and regulatory activities. In this role, you are expected to build strong collaborative relationships, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes that support government, industry and community needs.
At the Specified Calling Level 3 (SCL3), the Senior Engineer role is suited to highly experienced professionals who can lead complex technical investigations and provide specialist expertise in surface water hydrology and water resource engineering. You will develop and implement innovative engineering approaches, lead the preparation of policies, standards, guidelines and strategic plans, and provide authoritative advice that supports sustainable water management outcomes across Western Australia. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will manage complex projects, mentor team members, build productive relationships with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex technical information to a range of audiences. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping water resource policy and delivering evidence-based solutions that support government, industry and community needs.
