Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced and highly organised Orthoptist to join our eye clinic in Melbourne, Australia. This role is ideal for candidates with strong clinical expertise, as well as proven management and administrative capabilities. You will work closely with ophthalmologists in a modern, well-equipped clinic, supporting both clinical operations and day-to-day practice management.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical DutiesPerform visual function testing and comprehensive patient assessmentsConduct orthoptic and/or optometric evaluationsAssist ophthalmologists with patient management and surgical preparationPerform diagnostic imaging and maintain accurate clinical recordsDeliver high-quality, patient-centred care
Administrative & Management DutiesSupport daily clinic operations, including scheduling and workflow coordinationMaintain accurate billing, invoicing, and financial recordsManage patient accounts, including billing, and health fund claimsPrepare reports, correspondence, and referral lettersMonitor inventory levels and coordinate ordering of clinical suppliesEnsure efficient documentation and medical record managementAssist in improving clinic processes and overall service delivery
Technical Skills & KnowledgeGeneral ophthalmology assessments including:Patient history takingVisual acuity and subjective refractionOptical Coherence Tomography (OCT)Visual field testingIOL MasterRetinal photographyAbility to work independently while supporting clinicians in managing patient flow
Key AttributesHigh attention to detail and strong organisational skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal abilitiesStrong customer service focus and patient care approachProven ability to manage workload and support clinic operationsProfessional, reliable, and proactive attitude
RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Optometry, Orthoptics, or a related fieldAt least 3 years of experience in an eye clinic or eye hospital Previous experience with administrative or clinic management dutiesStrong English communication skills (IELTS 6 or equivalent)
