Senior Fleet Design & Technical Lead

The Senior Fleet Design and Technical Lead provides strategic and technical leadership for the design, development, assurance and continuous improvement of the VICSES fleet portfolio. The role leads a multidisciplinary technical team responsible for developing and maintaining fleet designs, specifications and standards that ensure safe, compliant, fit‑for‑purpose feet and aligned with operational requirements. The role requires regular intra/interstate travel to undertake quality assurance activities, inspections and audits of fleet assets in production at contracted supplier sites. This includes on-site engagement with suppliers to verify compliance, assess build quality and support assurance of fleet assets prior to commissioning.

• $128,635 to $140,849 + 12% Superannuation

ROLE SUMMARY:

The position ensures fleet assets comply with Australian Design Rules (ADR), Heavy Vehicle National Law, relevant standards, and the VICSES Quality Assurance Framework. Where suitable off‑the‑shelf solutions are not available, the role leads the development of bespoke fleet designs to meet VICSES operational, safety and performance requirements.

The Senior Fleet Design and Technical Lead works closely with operational partners, volunteers and other partners, and external suppliers to translate user requirements into robust technical specifications, support procurement activities, assure build quality across fleet contracts, and provide expert technical advice during investigations, reviews and safety‑related matters.

The role may be required to support workshops, taskforces and other engagement activities outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate volunteer availability and support planning and delivery requirements.

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based emergency service. Our highly skilled and equipped Volunteers are trained comprehensively in a wide range of emergency environments. To minimise the impact of emergencies when they occur and strengthen the community's capacity to recover swiftly and safely, VICSES focuses on working with communities and partners in building resilience to achieve more aware, informed and prepared communities.  We support them to understand their risk and the relevance of taking action before, during and after emergency events.

As the largest road rescue network in Australia we have specialist teams that provide a 24/7 response to road accident and trauma incidents. We assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important role in supporting the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), Parks Victoria and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) during major bushfire and emergency incidents.
