Mantel and Muse is a Canberra-based furniture and homewares business bringing heritage charm, sustainability and practical design together under one roof. We specialise in hand-selected vintage, restored and ethically sourced furniture, décor and homewares.
As a small, hands-on team operating from a busy Fyshwick showroom and warehouse, we work collaboratively across receiving deliveries, warehouse organisation, furniture restoration, showroom presentation, customer collections and local deliveries. Our pieces are often vintage, one-off or restored items, so care, attention to detail and pride in quality are essential.
Both roles are important to our day-to-day operations. While they have different primary responsibilities, the Assistant Storeman / Delivery Driver and Restoration Assistant work together to ensure that stock is safely handled, accurately stored, carefully prepared and presented to Mantel and Muse’s expected standard.
Position 1: Assistant Storeman / Delivery DriverLocation: Mantel and Muse, Fyshwick ACT

The Assistant Storeman / Delivery Driver supports the efficient movement, storage, preparation and delivery of furniture and homewares across the Mantel and Muse warehouse, showroom and customer locations.
This is a practical, physically active role involving warehouse organisation, loading and unloading, stock handling, customer collections and local deliveries. The successful applicant must be confident driving Mantel and Muse’s small delivery truck on a standard car licence and providing professional service at customer homes, businesses and project sites.
Key dutiesReceive, unload and check incoming furniture, homewares and other stock against delivery documentation.
Identify and report damage, shortages, discrepancies or stock-condition concerns.
Label, organise and store stock in allocated warehouse locations so pieces are easy to identify, access and prepare for sale.
Move furniture and homewares safely between delivery areas, warehouse storage, customer-collection areas and showroom displays.
Assist with showroom resets and display changes by moving furniture and preparing items for the shop floor.
Pick, pack and prepare sold items for customer collection, internal transfers and delivery.
Load and unload furniture, homewares, packaging materials and other stock safely and efficiently.
Conduct local deliveries throughout Canberra and surrounding areas using Mantel and Muse’s small delivery truck.
Drive the delivery truck confidently, safely and responsibly while complying with road rules, company procedures and vehicle-safety requirements.
Check delivery schedules and documentation before departing, ensuring the correct items are loaded and deliveries are completed in a practical order.
Load furniture securely for transport using protective blankets, straps, packaging and approved equipment to minimise the risk of damage.
Deliver furniture and homewares safely to customer homes, businesses and project sites.
Provide friendly, respectful and professional customer service during deliveries and customer collections.
Assist with carrying and placing furniture at customer premises where safe and practical, using correct manual-handling practices and appropriate equipment.
Obtain delivery confirmation where required and promptly report delivery issues, product damage, customer concerns, vehicle faults or incidents.
Keep the delivery vehicle clean, presentable and organised, and report maintenance, safety or mechanical concerns promptly.
Keep warehouse and customer-collection areas clean, organised and safe, including maintaining clear walkways and disposing of packaging responsibly.
Use trolleys, dollies, moving blankets, straps and other approved warehouse and delivery equipment safely.
Current Australian driver licence that permits the holder to drive Mantel and Muse’s small delivery truck on a standard car licence.
Confidence and demonstrated ability to drive a small truck or delivery vehicle safely.
Ability and willingness to conduct local deliveries throughout Canberra and surrounding areas as a regular part of the role.
Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and moving of furniture and other bulky or awkward items.
Ability to safely load, secure, transport and unload furniture and homewares using moving blankets, straps, trolleys and other approved equipment.
Strong attention to detail, including the ability to identify damage, stock discrepancies and presentation issues.
Good organisational skills and the ability to keep warehouse areas orderly and stock accessible.
Reliable communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach when attending customer homes, businesses and project sites.
Commitment to workplace health and safety, correct manual handling, safe driving and good housekeeping practices.
Reliable attendance, punctuality and a willingness to take responsibility for completing work properly.
Previous warehouse, stock handling, retail back-of-house, removals, courier, furniture delivery or homewares delivery experience.
Experience receiving and checking deliveries, organising stock, stocktaking or preparing customer orders.
Familiarity with Canberra and surrounding areas.
Experience using trolleys, dollies, moving blankets, protective packaging, straps or similar warehouse and delivery equipment.
An interest in furniture, interiors, vintage pieces or homewares.
Practical, hands-on and comfortable with physically active work.
Careful and respectful when handling vintage, restored, fragile and one-off furniture pieces.
Reliable, punctual and able to work independently once trained.

The Restoration Assistant supports the cleaning, preparation, light restoration and presentation of Mantel and Muse’s vintage and second-hand furniture.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys careful, hands-on work and has an interest in timber furniture, restoration, refinishing, repairs or interiors. The Restoration Assistant will work under direction to help ensure furniture is clean, stable, attractive and ready for display or sale while preserving the character and integrity of each piece.
Key dutiesClean, assess and prepare vintage and second-hand furniture for restoration, display or sale.
Carry out basic restoration and furniture-preparation tasks under direction, including cleaning, light sanding, oiling, waxing, polishing and minor touch-ups.
Prepare timber furniture for oiling, waxing, polishing, refinishing or other approved treatment.
Tighten fittings, replace or fit basic hardware, attend to loose components and complete minor repairs where appropriate.
Check furniture for stability, surface condition, marks, scratches, loose joints, damage and presentation issues before it reaches the showroom floor.
Use basic hand tools, sanding equipment, restoration materials and finishes safely and appropriately.
Assist with furniture disassembly and reassembly where required and under direction.
Help select, prepare and prioritise suitable pieces for restoration according to business needs.
Assist with documenting furniture condition, restoration tasks completed and materials used where required.
Help ensure completed pieces meet Mantel and Muse’s quality, safety and presentation standards before display, photography, sale or dispatch.
Assist with moving furniture safely between warehouse storage, restoration spaces and the showroom.
Support showroom preparation by helping clean, polish, position and present completed furniture.
Maintain restoration tools, materials and workspaces in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
Maintain clear work areas, safely store materials and dispose of rubbish, sanding waste and packaging appropriately.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times, including safe lifting, correct tool use, appropriate handling of restoration products and good housekeeping.
Report damage, defects, equipment faults, safety hazards or concerns about furniture condition promptly.
Carry out other reasonable duties as directed to support the smooth operation of Mantel and Muse.
Ability to complete careful, detailed and methodical hands-on work to a consistent standard.
Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality and presentation of finished work.
Ability to follow instructions, work safely and learn practical restoration techniques under supervision.
