ABOUT THE POSITION:

This role is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative, curriculum-aligned education programs and resources across Museums Victoria's platforms—onsite, offsite, and online—with a particular focus on Scienceworks and the Melbourne Planetarium. The successful candidate will ensure educational offerings are high-quality, engaging, and aligned with the priorities of Museums Victoria, as well as the requirements of the Department of Education, the Strategic Partnerships Program, and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS). The role supports the engagement of diverse education audiences, from Early Learning through to Tertiary and Adult and Further Education sectors, and contributes to the broader educational and strategic goals of Museums Victoria.

Some of the key duties include: 

• Design and deliver curriculum-based learning experiences in physical sciences, with emphasis on astronomy and Earth and space sciences.
• Create high-quality onsite and digital education programs and resources that align with current education frameworks (F–10, VCE, tertiary).
• Lead the delivery of education sessions, including Planetarium shows and digital outreach programs.
• Provide guidance on learning theory, engagement strategies, and teaching practices to support museum staff and program development.

The successful applicant will have:

• Extensive knowledge of physical sciences education, particularly in astronomy and space science, with a sound understanding of F–tertiary curriculum and current educational issues.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering innovative and inclusive education programs using contemporary pedagogy and digital technologies.
• Proven ability to use online tools to create and deliver engaging virtual learning experiences.
• Strong evaluation and reflection skills to support continuous improvement in educational practice and learner engagement.
• Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with educators, professional organisations, and education authorities.
• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve targets and timelines.
• A valid Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one at own cost) or current VIT registration.
• Direct experience in teaching or a background in science or technology is highly desirable.

OTHER INFORMATION

This role is Full Time, Fixed Term position until 4 December 2026. The salary on offer is VPS4.1 base of grade - $100,894 (pe r annum, pro rata) + 12% Superannuation.
