About the role
Our Company
TerraCom Limited (ASX: TER) is a growth driven Australian mining company headquartered in Brisbane, with a global footprint and a diverse portfolio of coal assets across Australia and South Africa. Recognised as a reliable low cost producer, we are committed to maximising value and performance across our operations to deliver strong returns for our investors.
Our flagship asset, the Blair Athol Coal Mine, is strategically located in Queensland’s prolific coal heartland and remains the bedrock of our operational success.
Looking ahead, we are strengthening our position in the region through a strategic partnership with leading Chinese energy company Wintime Energy Group Co. Ltd. Together, we are advancing the Moorlands Thermal Coal Project located less than 15 kilometres from Blair Athol as a key extension of our Central Queensland operations. This development is set to play a vital role in enhancing production capacity and supporting long term growth across our Australian portfolio.
At TerraCom, you will not just join a company, you will help shape its future. We are passionate about empowering our people to grow, learn, and unlock their full potential. If you are ready to step up and thrive, this is where your journey begins.
The Role: Lead Safety. Build Capability. Shape the Culture.
We are seeking a practical, people focused Health, Safety and Training Advisor to join the HST team at Blair Athol Coal Mine. This is a Monday to Friday role operating on a 9 day fortnight, offering a strong balance between meaningful site involvement and regular time away from work.
Reporting to the HST Superintendent, you will be a trusted partner to operational leaders and frontline teams, helping to strengthen safety systems, reduce risk and build workforce capability. You will have the opportunity to influence how safety is understood, practised and embedded across the operation.
This role is ideal for an HST professional who enjoys being visible in the field, coaching others and turning good systems into practical outcomes. You will have genuine scope to contribute ideas, improve the way we work and make a visible impact across site.
The Opportunity
You will support the ongoing improvement of Blair Athol Mine’s Health, Safety and Training systems, ensuring they remain practical, effective and aligned with Queensland mining legislation. Your work will span risk management, incident investigation, training, assurance, emergency response and workforce engagement.
Working closely with Mining, Maintenance and CHPP teams, you will help leaders make informed decisions, strengthen safety leadership and build capability across the workforce. The role calls for sound judgement, strong communication and a hands on approach to supporting safe and effective operations.
Responsibilities of the Role
· Maintain and enhance the site Health and Safety Management System in line with Queensland mining legislation and TerraCom requirements.
· Conduct risk assessments, workplace inspections and field interactions to identify hazards, strengthen controls and support timely corrective actions.
· Take a leading role in incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologies, including action follow up and effective close out.
· Deliver, coordinate and evaluate site wide safety and operational training to support workforce competence and compliance.
· Coordinate Training Needs Analyses and contribute to the development and improvement of competency based training frameworks.
· Coach and support Supervisors and Superintendents to strengthen safety leadership, risk management and workforce capability.
· Develop and support practical safety campaigns, toolbox initiatives, behavioural safety activities and workforce engagement programs.
· Prepare safety performance reports, analyse trends and contribute to regulatory reporting and submissions as required.
· Coordinate Emergency Response Team activities and drills to maintain site readiness and capability.
· Support compliant and effective return to work programs and associated rehabilitation processes.
· Lead internal audits and support site readiness for inspections, compliance reviews and external audits.
· Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities, including new safety tools, systems and technology that can improve safety performance and training delivery.
About You
You are a credible, hands on HST professional who can build trust with people at every level of an operation. You are comfortable in the field, confident working with leaders and crews, and able to balance legislative requirements with practical site outcomes.
You will bring:
· A Diploma in Work Health and Safety, or a similar relevant qualification.
· Working knowledge of the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations, with a practical understanding of site safety obligations.
· Experience developing, delivering and evaluating health and safety training programs and workforce capability initiatives.
· Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, TAE40122, is highly desirable.
· ICAM qualification, or experience using an equivalent incident investigation methodology, is desirable.
· Demonstrated experience in incident investigations, safety audits, assurance activities and compliance reporting.
· Return to Work Coordinator training.
· Current First Aid certification.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, influence and engage supervisors, leaders and frontline teams.
· A proactive and adaptable approach, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement and a strong safety culture.
What’s on Offer
· Monday to Friday role on a 9 day fortnight at TerraCom’s flagship Blair Athol Coal Mine, giving you a regular rostered day off each fortnight.
· The flexibility to live locally in Clermont or commute, with DIDO options from regional centres such as Mackay or Emerald.
· Competitive remuneration, including five weeks of annual leave and performance based incentives.
· A meaningful HST role with genuine influence across site safety culture, leadership and workforce capability.
· Ongoing career development through practical exposure, mentorship and opportunities to progress into senior HST leadership roles.
· A supportive and collaborative team culture that values professionalism, integrity, continuous learning and practical improvement.
