Position overview:

Under broad direction, be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation. The position supports the Finance Manager in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

As the second-in-charge (2IC) to the Finance Manager, the Senior Financial Accountant is expected to work autonomously across all areas of the finance function and act for the Finance Manager during periods of leave.

Training/qualifications:

CPA or CA qualified
Minimum 5 years' experience in financial accounting.
Firm experience preferable

Required skills, knowledge, experience & attributes:

Experience with payroll, BAS, FBT and external audits.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and deliver accurate outcomes in a fast paced and busy working environment.
Demonstrated high attention to detail and accuracy (essential)
Experience with complex payroll and Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs).
Experience in not-for-profit, membership-based or union organisations (desirable rather than essential).
Demonstrated passion for continuous learning with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems, processes and working environments.

A proactive attitude and strong work ethic.
The ability to work independently and well in a team environment.

Role Accountabilities:

Financial Accounting

Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, including preparing journals, reconciliations and financial reports.
Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances.
Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial records.
Assist with the preparation of monthly management reports, budgets and forecasts.
Prepare cash flow reports and financial analysis as required.

Accounts Payable and Receivable

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Prepare supplier payment runs.
Reconcile supplier and customer ledgers.
Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up where required.

Payroll

Act as payroll back up by processing payroll and related adjustments as required to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery
Prepare payroll reconciliations and ensure compliance with PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax and relevant legislation.
Assist with payroll matters relating to Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs).

Taxation and Compliance

Assist with BAS, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns and other statutory returns.
Assist with preparing audit working papers and liaising with external auditors.

Fixed Assets

Maintain the fixed asset register.
Process capital additions, disposals and depreciation.
Reconcile the fixed asset register to the general ledger.

Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement improvements to finance processes and internal controls.
Assist with finance system enhancements and process automation.
Support finance-related projects and other duties as required.

2IC Responsibilities

Provide support to the Finance Manager across all finance functions.
Act for the Finance Manager during periods of leave or absence.
Assist with resolving day-to-day finance issues and ensuring continuity of operations.
Provide guidance and support to other finance team members when required.
Other financial duties as required.
