Teacher Special Education Hearing Impairment - Chester Hill North Public School

Chester Hill North Public School is a Kindergarten to Year 6 primary school with  an enrolment of 421 students, including 75% from English as an Additional Language or Dialect and 2.6% from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds. The teachers, wellbeing staff and specialist support teams work closely with families to ensure every child thrives.  CHNPS is a vibrant and inclusive school community and provides Aboriginal Education Programs, High Potential & Gifted Education (HPGE), Inclusive Education Unit (3 Autism classes), Community Hub and an On-site Hearing Team.

The Itinerant Support Teacher Hearing (ISTH) based at CHNPS supports students who are Deaf or hard-of-hearing across a range of school settings, including those prior to school-age, preschool, primary school, high school, schools for specific purposes (SSP) and support classes. The enthusiastic and dedicated ISTH staff have a strong commitment to quality educational and social outcomes for all students from diagnosis to Year 12. The suitable applicant requires their own vehicle, a current driver’s licence and willingness to travel between work sites.

1. Approval to teach students with hearing loss, primary and/or secondary. Auslan desirable. Candidates must have completed or are willing to complete the Masters of Disability Studies – Hearing.

2. Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate quality, inclusive and differentiated learning plans to meet the complex needs of students who are Deaf and hard of hearing across varied educational settings.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of and capacity to use assistive technology and augmentative communication systems to support equitable access to the curriculum for Deaf and hard of hearing students, with a willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning.

4. Demonstrated capacity to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, families and external agencies to meet the needs of students with hearing loss and other complex needs within inclusive environments that respect and respond to diverse cultural backgrounds.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
