About you

You are a proactive and highly organised professional who enjoys working at the intersection of science, strategy, compliance and people. You may have experience in research administration, grants, funding submissions, university administration or a related scientific environment, and you are looking for a role where your work directly supports world-class medical research.

You are a confident communicator who can interpret complex guidelines, explain requirements clearly and build trusted relationships with researchers at different career stages. You enjoy variety, take pride in getting the details right and are motivated by the opportunity to provide practical, thoughtful advice across the full grant lifecycle.

The role

As Research Grants Officer, you will support the delivery of high-quality grant services across the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, assisting researchers from the early stages of identifying funding opportunities through to submission, award management and reporting.

Reporting to the Head, Research Grants Office, this role offers broad exposure across pre-award and post-award grants management. You will work closely with researchers one-on-one, helping them navigate funding opportunities, interpret guidelines, prepare applications and budgets, and meet funder and institutional requirements. The role also involves supporting funding agreements, milestone reporting, compliance obligations and relationships with key external partners.

This is a varied and intellectually stimulating opportunity for someone who enjoys problem solving, relationship building and contributing to meaningful research outcomes. You will play an important role in helping researchers access and manage the funding that enables life changing cardiovascular discoveries.

What we will trust you with

• Supporting researchers across the full grant lifecycle, from identifying opportunities through to submission, award management and reporting
• Providing practical advice to researchers on funding guidelines, application requirements, budgets and submission processes
• Reviewing grant applications for compliance, completeness and quality prior to submission
• Coordinating pre-award funding rounds, including promotion, applicant consultation, review, approvals and submission support
• Assisting with post-award requirements, including funding agreements, variation requests, milestone reports and funder obligations
• Building strong working relationships with researchers, students, postdoctoral fellows, funders and external research administration partners
• Maintaining accurate grant records, systems, intranet content and documentation to support effective grants management
• Contributing to reporting, meetings, process improvement and the smooth operation of the Research Grants Office

Does this sound like you?

• A degree in medical science, science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education or training
• Experience in research administration, university administration, grant submissions or a related environment would be highly regarded
• Strong scientific communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible advice
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working directly with researchers and stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret guidelines, policies, procedures and funding requirements
• Highly organised, proactive and able to manage competing deadlines without losing sight of the detail
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office, databases, online systems and other tools to manage information accurately
• A collaborative, solutions-focused approach, with sound judgement, the ability to problem solve and the confidence to ask questions or escalate when needed
